Beaumont Police say text messages claiming there will be a violent gang initiation are possibly being generated by a computer in a number of states. Area law enforcement agencies and KFDM have been flooded with calls from citizens who are worried about a text message they received warning that women will be shot at an unidentified Walmart store as part of a gang initiation. Authorities in Beaumont, Port Arthur and Orange are receiving the calls and say they can find no credible source of the information. [1] An e-mail and text message rumor warning of gang initiation killings at Wal-Mart stores this week has made its way into the Birmingham metro area, authorities said. Police dispatchers throughout the metro area say they have received calls from residents today concerned about the rumors.[2] Cops in Southern Georgia say that recent threats of gang initiation killings at Wal-Mart are uncredited threats. The urban legend of gangs requiring members to kill innocent shoppers at stores like Wal-Mart and Target have run rampant before, but this initiation threat sent some residents into a tizzy. Residents of Valdosta, Georgia received text messages and e-mails warning them to stay away from area Wal-Marts.[3] McALLEN -- Consider yourself duped, law enforcement officials say: The warning you received about a gang initiation rite at Wal-Mart is a hoax. A number of people in the McAllen area reported receiving text messages on their cell phones Wednesday evening warning women not to go to Wal-Mart because three females would be killed by wannabe gang members.[4] E-mail and text messages warning of a gang initiation in which someone would be murdered at a Wal-Mart store are being regarded as a hoax by local law enforcement and Wal-Mart officials.[5] TREASURE COAST - Rumors spreading across the Treasure Coast about a gang initiation involving the killing of people at a Wal-Mart store is a hoax that's been circulating since 2005, local law enforcement officials said Wednesday.[6]
Three women will be shot in a gang initiation. Please send this to all women." People all around the state are getting a similar message, but instead of APD, it says their local police department is issuing the warning. Every police department Eyewitness News 4 has heard from says it's a hoax, and that they did not send out the text. APD says it's still not taking any chances. 'Now, we have advised the field units that are out on patrol that maybe they can keep an extra eye on the Wal-Marts just as a precautionary measure," said Nadine Hamby of the Albuquerque Police Department.[7] The Port Arthur Police Department says the text message indicated three women will be shot at a local Walmart as part of a gang initiation. Port Arthur public have told KBMT 12 News ABC/NBC that they will be stepping up patrols around the Wal Mart areas to ensure the safety of their citizens. While this is considered a hoax, officers still want people to remain vigilant, and always aware of their surroundings. I certainly hope whomever started this will be prosecuted for causing such panic, how sad that people will lower themselves like this just for thrills.[8]
WACO - Police departments across the state, including Waco are trying to get the word out about a mass text message they say is threatening, but also fake. It's an urban legend that tells women to beware, that a gang initiation is happening at Wal-Mart and pass it on to all the ladies. The e-mail does not name a specific Wal-Mart, and police have checked it out and say thousands of people received the message, but it's bogus, and similar to other false warnings in past weeks.[9] The Hickory Police Department is warning residents of text messages and e-mails telling of a gang initiation to take place at the Hickory Wal Mart Wednesday night. Hickory Police Chief Tom Atkins said the department is taking the alert seriously although they have received no credible evidence violence will take place.[10]
South Georgia police say a rumor about a gang initiation taking place at a Valdosta Wal-Mart is not credible. Police say the rumor, which was sent to Lowndes County residents via text message and email early this afternoon, said gang members were planning on killing customers at an area Wal-Mart as part of their initiation into the gang.[11] "Please be advised that there has been a text message circulating warning of a planned gang initiation to occur at local Wal- Marts where three individuals will be killed. There have been numerous inquiries regarding the validity of this text message throughout the State of Florida and South Georgia. At this time the Palm Beach County Sheriff'''s Office, Miami-Dade PD, Broward County Sheriff'''s Office and Tallahassee police have found no credible information to substantiate this threat.[12] Different versions of the message warns that a gang initiation will harm passersby in local area Wal-Marts. John Sheehan, Lee County Sheriff's Office public information officer, said they've received several calls from the public concerned about the texts. 'Similar messages have been received in other parts of the state and country throughout the day,' Sheehan said in a press release.[13]
The Maryland State Police's Eastern Shore Information Center has received numerous concerns regarding the text message circulating about gang activity at Wal-Mart this evening. This threat has been confirmed by law enforcement as being a hoax. Similar texts & emails regarding false threats may be viewed on Snoops.com.[14] If you've received a text message warning you about going to Wal-Mart, Maryland State Police say it's a hoax.[15]
A text message that warns people that three women are going to be shot at a Wal-Mart is causing quite the scare around the state. Police departments across the state say it's all a hoax.[7]
The message reads '''Police are asking all women not to go to any Walmart tonight, there is a gang initiation and three women will be shot. This is not a joke please forward.''' It was sent via text to several people in our area. Whether this text is a credible threat or simply a hoax to is being investigated.[12] A text message making its way around the community warns of gang initiation killings scheduled to happen Wednesday at unnamed Walmart stores. 11 News has learned it's a hoax with a long history. The text message reads something similar to this: "Don't go to Walmart tonight some sort of gang initiation, they are supposed to kill 3 girls.[16] You'll recall last April (2008), Fountain Police had to deal with a number of reports about a text message that talked about MS-13 gang initiations involving car bumping. That also was a hoax, but created a similar reaction within the community.[16]
There is nothing to suggest that rumors circulating about a gang initiation to take place at Wal-Mart are credible, sheriff's Sgt. Calvin Chew said this afternoon. If anyone receives an e-mail or text message related to this, they are asked to call the sheriff's office at (706) 821-1080 so investigators can track down their origin. It's a whole bunch of rumors going around, Sgt. Chew said.[17] The rumors spread via Facebook messages, e-mails and text messages and said that a Columbia-based gang will have an initiation event Wednesday night that will involve shooting three women at Wal-Mart.[18]
SALISBURY ' Police said that a text message warning people about pending gang attacks at Wal-Mart are false.[14] The text message was sent to several people in South Florida and the Treasure Coast. It read, "Police are asking all women not to go to any Wal-Mart tonight.[19] A big scare for Lawton Wal-Mart customers overnight. Police got word of a threatening text message circulating it's way around the nation. It read that three women would be killed at a Wal-Mart, but no word where. Police took this threat seriously and patrolled both Lawton locations last night.[20]
The context of the message warns of an alleged gang initiation planned in which women will be killed at Wal-Mart and urges all women not to go to Wal-Mart. The DSP Delaware Information and Analysis Center (DIAC) have found no credible information deeming this as a real threat and open source information reveals this as an urban myth."[21] A possible gang initiation, three women will be shot. Bossier City and Shreveport police say they have found no credible information to substantiate the threats and refer to the warnings as 'hoaxes' and 'urban legends,' according to news releases from the departments.[5] Officials at the Columbia Police Department said a rumor involving the threat of a gang initiation in Columbia is unsubstantiated.[18] Police departments in Florida issued an alert on Thursday regarding a possible e-mail hoax about gang initiations at area Wal-Marts.[22]
"St. Lucie County Sheriff Mascara in conjunction with Port St. Lucie Police Chief Shinnamon and Fort Pierce Police Chief Baldwin would like to inform the public that all three agencies have received calls concerning a possible gang initiation which would target female associates of Wal-Mart as possible victims of homicide.[6]
Warning of random shootings at Wal-Mart and gang initiations circulated around the state, with local law enforcement calling it a hoax.[13] The message doesn't specify a location or a gang name. Other law enforcement agencies in Georgia and Florida have received calls in reference to this message. Detectives say several urban myths on gang initiation have been created on the internet in the past and all indicators are that this is the same type of incident. This material may not be published, rewritten, or redistributed.[23]
The message came from a Florida area code and said that three men and three women will be shot at Wal-Mart as part of a gang initiation, Lt. Bill Bailey said.[24] WGMD has receive several inquiries about a rumor about possible gang initiation at an area Walmart where women will be killed.[21] The Times-Journal of Selma, Alabama noted that gang initiation rumors erupted there as well, culminating in a panicky phone call from a subscriber Tuesday night asking if it was true that hostages were being held inside the Selma Walmart store. No such assault occurred, the Times-Journal reported. Internet rumors naming big-box stores such as Walmart and Target as locations for murderous gang initiation rites have become a staple of urban legendry in recent years. I'm not aware of any instances in which they've proven true.[25]
The messages warned that gangs have infiltrated the department stores and will be carrying out initiation killings on innocent shoppers. Cops say there is no merit behind the threats, and that these type of gang initiation threats have become a new-age urban legend. A similar gang scare took place last night in Albany, but cops there say it was a phony as well.[3] Tuesday afternoon, word spread that two Wal-Mart stores would be the site of a gang initiation.[26] A co-worker of mine just called me in a panic warning me not to go to Wal-Mart at ALL tonight because of these gang initiations. Naturally, I combed the internet looking for some light to be shed on this, and all I could come up with are rumors.[25] ALACHUA COUNTY, FL -- If you've heard about a gang initiation involving a murder at Wal-Mart, officials say you have nothing to worry about, it's just a hoax.[23] ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. -- Alachua County investigators say a mass e-mail and text sent out Wednesday about a new gang initiation is a hoax.[27]
Police confirm crazy reports of Walmart Gang Initiations are false. Walmart Gang Initiation reports have been dispelled as false by police this week in three states.[28]
CELCIL COUNTY, Md. - Deputy state fire marshals and officers with the Elkton Police Department are continuing their investigation into the detonation of a destructive device at the Super Wal-Mart store in Elkton Saturday night.[29] Police say Smith's being held in the Mower County jail for now. Investigators with the Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force say the crime extends beyond just Wal-Mart stores, but because of the ongoing investigation, they couldn't release any additional details.[30]
Authorities say a single arrest at a local Wal-Mart could help them break this fraud investigation wide open. Police say they have arrested a woman who is accused of trying to scam the store out of thousands of dollars. Now we've learned her arrest is linked to a retail scam that stretches across several states.[30]
Valdosta Police say they have found no credible evidence validating a gang threat targeted at two retail stores.[26]
Snopes.com, a Web site that collects and analyzes rumors and urban legends, says it has determined the threats to be false. It lists a string of threats, with slight variations, dating to 2005. 'Many similar versions of this basic rumor, all sharing common elements (e.g., gang initiates will be murdering white women, children, or the elderly at various 'big box' store locations), have periodically appeared with different dates or locales mentioned for the purported soon-to-take-place initiation killings,' Snopes.com says of the threats.[5]

A spokesperson for Dillons told us the stores offer a number of ways to save, including doubling coupons. Mary Lou Cross says, despite what we found, it won't stop her from shopping there. '''They are more expensive on some things but I shop for things I know are on sale,''' said Cross. She is a grocery store hopper, going where she can find the best deals. She says Dillons, Price Cutter, Harter House and Wal-Mart can each boast the cheapest items from time to time; you just have to do your homework. [31] Not every product can be reduced to a cheaper price, but, Price Cutter's does try to offer many reduced prices, sale items, double coupon's, meat cut fresh daily where Walmart's is shipped in already packaged, and has additives to keep it fresh on the shelf longer. Price Cutter not putting sale prices into their computer. the other day I purchased honey on sale for $3.50 at the shelf, but when I got home I had paid full price of $5.79. There is no way gas increased these price increases. it was and still is greed that is causing us to get ripped off. I think anyone who shop's at Wal-Mart isn't shopping smart! There is nothing there supporting our local economy and in these tough times we need to look out for one another.[31] I mainly shop at the Marshfield Price Cutter. I love their meats, veggies and the 5 for $25 products. If I can't find something I ask to talk to the manager and he will get it out of the back or if they are out of a product that's on sale, he will substitute a better product. I never shop at walmart, they have bad meat, veggies and horrible customer service. To 1:19 Carolyn: You said it best! It has been proven time and time again that the major brands will produce a lot of the off-brands. To Food Stamps and Food Pantries.Yes I do get the same sick feeling when those over paid executives are getting bonuses at the expense of us taxpayers.[31]
Can buy sliced deli meats there for half of Walmart, Dillon's or Price Cutter. Why are they charging $6.99 a lb. for sliced meat??? I shop the sales as much as possible, but pretty much stick with Food 4 Less on meats.[31]
When we did our shopping, the detergent was on sale for $5.99 at Price Cutter, compared to $8.69 at Harter House. It's a little disappointing for store owner Randy Richards, who says his stores do their best to always beat Price Cutter, but he says Harter House has a lot more to offer than just low prices. '''With Harter House, it's a tie between customer service and quality.[31] In my opinion, Price Cutter and Harter House are not less expensive for an average grocery bill to feed a family. I've tried both of those stores and compared my average shopping bill and Dillons was cheaper. I don't shop Wal-Mart, they have the worst customer service.[31] With our hidden camera in tow, we went shopping at stores of the four largest grocery chains in the city: Wal-Mart, Dillons, Harter House and Price Cutter.[31]
Wal-Mart and Price Cutter could not be reached for comments. Below is the complete list of our purchases and their cost at each store.[31] In second place, the items at Price Cutter cost $5.34 more than Wal-Mart, for a total of $39.24.[31] The bronze medal goes to Harter House, where our grand total was $42.20, $2.96 more than Price Cutter. Its third place finish could be blamed almost entirely on the cost of Tide.[31]
I buy cheese at Sam's, only that's cheaper, and some meats at Price Cutter or Harter House on sale.[31] Monday, Mar 16 at 10:05 PM Sara wrote. Price Cutter always leaves plenty of their sale prices out of their computers, which means you're paying full price when you go through the checkout.[31]
Lastly, the company in late February ]] coordinated opening of 27 stores in early March. Lastly, the company in late February outlined a strategy to be more aggressive in taking on Wal-Mart. In recent months, Wal-Mart's sales have far outpaced its rival's. For its part, Wal-Mart is looking to expand aggressively in Mexico where it plans to open 252 stores this year. It has rolled out $3.95 breakfasts that include coffee and an egg sandwich. That price point was chosen intentionally to counter the derisive "Fourbucks" moniker the chain earned by selling pricey cups of java.[32] The single-entrance store that's nearly half the size as other Wal-Mart Supercenters will be the city's first commercial retailer, which will provide valuable sales-tax revenue for Cedar Hills, especially after the city moved to increase sales tax immediately after Wal-Mart broke ground. "This project will provide needed jobs for several hundred people in the area, and the revenues it will generate for Cedar Hills will help us improve and add to the amenities we offer our citizens," Mayor Mike McGee said.[33] I was disgusted but not surprised when I heard the Salinas City Council voted 5-2 to ban big-box stores. Apparently the City Council didn't care about the overwhelming support for Wal-Mart from their constituents and the hundreds of jobs it would have created and the tax base it would have brought into Salinas. They seemed more concerned with politics and their ulterior motives rather than the people they represent. They also must not have cared about those single mothers out there trying to put food on the table or those so desperately looking for a job - any job.[34]
A year ago, after a judge finally cleared the way for work to resume, Jamieson had expected the Wal-Mart at Panama Lane and Highway 99 to be open by Christmas. That didn't work out. 'It's just not that easy to start a project like that when it's been stopped that long,' he said. The city's building codes had changed, and he had to wait for Wal-Mart to make the necessary arrangements. He hesitated to project an opening date, but guessed three to four months to complete the store and then four to six weeks to stock it. The store was already under construction in January 2004 when Kern County Superior Court Judge Kenneth Twisselman ordered it to a halt, siding with 'Bakersfield Citizens for Local Control,' a group that never revealed its funders or membership.[35] Noblesville Planning Director Steve Huntley said it would be similar to other centers along the Ind. 37 corridor: Home Depot, Meijer and Lowe's Home Improvement. He said the city has guidelines that require stores to screen outdoor merchandise. The city has issued repeated citations to Wal-Mart for putting merchandise outside its garden center, a violation of local zoning regulations. He said the renovation is unlikely to start this spring or summer, but could be completed in 2010. It would take up approximately 27 parking spaces in the side parking lot north of the building, and could allow drive-up access for Wal-Mart customers.[36] Wal-Mart renegotiated and broke ground on the store last spring, but not before agreeing to follow strict city codes on the store's appearance. The list of aesthetic regulations was a somewhat easy order to fill for Wal-Mart, though, because it coincided with the corporation's recent push to improve its appearance inside and out. The new generation of Wal-Mart stores nationwide has recently featured wider aisles, fuller lighting and greener efficiency, along with more artistic attention to its once-warehouse-style exterior.[33] The woman was being investigated for purchasing the goods through the use of a forged or stolen check and was being further investigated for alleged incidents in Wal-Mart stores in Detroit Lakes, Alexandria, Pine City and several southern Minnesota cities.[37] Investigators say Wal-Mart stores in Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Pine City, Sauk Centre, Austin, Rochester, Worthington, Fairmont, and even some stores in northern Iowa were all hit with the same scam. They're all located along major interstates.[30]

Kroger price encroachment could create some tension. Consider further that Aldi which operates about 1,000 discount-oriented grocery stores under its own brand name across the U.S. is revisiting private label, looking to consolidate and bring the company’s operation into line with successful own-brand programs in the United States. Aldi, too, has a price reputation to defend and, to get the most of its investment in private label refurbishment, would need to respond to cost cutting among major rivals such as Kroger and potentially Wal-Mart. As private labels become more important to their businesses, retailers will become increasingly jealous of them, and that could lead to grimmer competition. [38] Dillon noted that national brand producers are generally holding the line on prices. Kroger has an opportunity to increase its private label price advantage. Cutting prices would be a pretty sure way to keep its private label, which has grown to about 27% of grocery sales, rolling along. In pressing its advantage over national brand grocery producers, Kroger would naturally press into the price advantage Wal-Mart enjoys. Kroger generally pegs its prices to Wal-Mart, staying within a fixed percentage that its customers find an acceptable added cost for the additional services the supermarket provides.[38]
After months of work, Wal-Mart is reintroducing the label with a new look and 80 additional products in the line up. In an ensuing interview with Reuters, Thomas talked about the brand'''s fresh white labels, its enhanced graphics and the new nutritional information on its box. She wouldn'''t commit to lowering product prices in line with declining commodity costs. When asked about the possibility, she repeated the company line about looking to create savings throughout the distribution process and passing them on to the consumer then wended her way to the next topic. She certainly didn't tout price cuts as an accompaniment to the reintroduction. Kroger CEO David Dillon told analysts during the company'''s fourth quarter conference call last week that he foresees a widening gap between national brand and Kroger private label products as commodity costs decline.[38] A New Tallahassee Wal-Mart Supercenter opened its doors this morning (3/18). With Florida being the fourth-highest ranked state for job losses, there was a lot to smile about when the retailer's new employees got their call backs. One applicant, Jatequa Willson said, "I probably applied for about 50 jobs in the past two months and Wal-Mart was the only call back out of all of those." The company says most of the positions being offered are full-time and are a great opportunity for everyone from seniors to young people just starting their work experience.[39]
"The Delaware State Police are currently being inundated with telephone calls regarding a text message that has been circulating throughout Central and Southern Delaware and portions of Maryland.[21] If anyone has information that can verify or disprove the information that's being sent on the text message, is asked to call Bakersfield Police at 661-327-7111.[40]
DeKalb Police Sgt. John Petragallo said the department received notice from a Chicago suburban police unit after a female received a text message with the information about a potential incident. She contacted police right away.[41] A mess!!!! I received this text message today and the person that sent it to me mom is a Jefferson County Sherriff and said that it was confirmed through several Birmingham police officers and I forwarded it to several of my friends.[2] You can stop calling the police, e-mailing and sending text messages to your relatives. Or is it Palm Beach County ]] Palm Beach County ? Maybe Miami -Dade? How about Tallahassee? None of the above, law enforcement said.[42] Several local law enforcement agencies reported receiving calls about the text message.[19]
A threatening text message sent to several people in the area has resulted in several calls into our newsroom.[12] '''Some people in DeKalb, mostly NIU students and faculty, had also gotten the forwarded text message,''' Petragallo said. '''It appears to be a nationwide hoax, but we can'''t confirm that yet.'''[41] The text message which turns out to be a hoax has been plaguing people on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.[8]
Might be fake but better safe than sorry." Police tell 11 News they are aware of the text message, but aren't commenting on it. Text message hoaxes similar to this one began back in 2005 in Memphis, GA, and have since circled the country, hitting cities seemingly randomly. We have been unable to find any reports that these occurrences were ever followed by actual violence linked to the warning.[16] The police communication center began receiving reports about the text message on Wednesday afternoon.[24]
Beaumont Police believe the text messages are being generated by computers in several states including Texas.[1] Police say there are no known facts that can substantiate the validity of the text message.[40]
The circulating text message has said there may be gang activity at a Wal-Mart Wednesday evening.[15] Law enforcement agencies in Florida and Georgia reported the mass e-mail and text burst was sent out regarding prospective members having to murder two to three women at a Wal-Mart in order to join the gang.[22] One version warns of a gang initiation in which three women will be killed at a Wal-Mart.[2]
Once police were notified, the Southwest Federal Gang Task Force investigated, finding no truth in the rumor. Police took precautionary measures by increasing patrols at both Valdosta Wal-Mart locations. Authorities say they hear rumors like this one often and most of the time, the only victims are the businesses involved.[26] Valdosta Police Commander Brian Childress tells WCTV that the Gang Task Force investigated the rumor and found that it is not credible. While the police do not feel area residents are at risk, they are stepping up patrols around two Valdosta Wal-Marts.[11]
We have to learn to stop sometimes and question what we hear. Actually this isn't something going around in only Selma. This is a nationwide rumor started by one dumb, bored person and it spread like wildfire. Its been going around since 2005, but just was reignited. Its going around in Talahassee, Savannah, Demopolis, El Paso and some small town in New Mexico where police were even called out to high school to investigate a rumor of girls who were going to shoot at the local Wal-Mart.[43] Police dispatchers in cities including Fairfield, Hoover, Hueytown, Pelham, Trussville, Birmingham and Calera all report citizens have called with concerns about the rumor. Similar rumors have been spread in Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana, according to various media outlets. Local police said they can find no credible information to substantiate the rumors. "They circulate that kind of stuff every year," said Sgt. S. White of the Birmingham Police Department's East Precinct.[2] Some of the messages said the department had confirmed the information. Similar reports have shown up in cities across the country tonight, including in Jacksonville,Fla., and Orlando, Fla., where local television stations reported via Twitter that the rumor was a hoax.[18]
We are aware of the message being circulated and are working with local authorities to enhance our security efforts at our stores in the area. While we take these types of situation seriously, we regard this as being only a rumor, much like similar rumors that have circulated via e-mail in previous years."[19] I'm interested to all who got this text but more especially to those who didn't. Did you forward the message? Did you recognize the number? Who do you know didn't get it? Are they still alive? Have you checked? My thoughts A local representative from your phone company teamed up with super stores like Walmart and Target to increase first quarter earnings to give rise to their stocks.[25]
If you go to a "grocery" store to buy anything non grocery you are always gonna pay more. It was a good report but you can not compare everything and be fair. It's like a bumper sticker I saw that read "Support the Chinese Army - Shop Walmart". They may have the lowest prices on some items (and even that's debatable), but I will not shop at Walmart unless I absolutely cannot avoid it.[31] I always check over the ads very carefully. I have tried to price match at Wal Mart but they do not carry all the brands the other stores carry so you can't price match those items. (Strike one) I hate Wal Mart meat & vegetables, they are horrible. (Strike two) And most of all about Wal Mart is they don't take coupons printed off your computer. (Strike three) I prefer Price Cutter's meat most of all. I like Dillons stores the most, other than their meat (the meat is expensive and tough).[31] My Family prefers Price Cutter over the other stores. The Price Cutter meats are so much fresher and they offer much leaner cuts.[31]
Monday, Mar 16 at 10:24 PM Cale wrote. What about Aldi, My family started to shop there after prices went up, and now we usually do the grocery shopping there and whatever is needed that they do not stock we will go to Price Cutter.[31] To anonymous 722am The same type of people that go into Price cutter and dillons go to wally world and aldi. It's about value shopping.[31] I prefer Dillons. You may pay a little more, but they have self checkouts. I walked out of Price Cutter one day, because they had one line open and twenty people waiting to check out, and I only had three items, and have also seen things out of date still on the shelves.[31]
I have shopped at Price Cutter's for years and have had no problems with the employee's being rude. the attitude of the customer greatly effects the attitude of the cashier.[31]

The stores are among the first to feature Wal-mart's new layout, store design and logo. Each new store is designed to make shopping easy for customers, with features such as wider aisles, a bright interior color palette, lower shelving for an improved sight line and directional signage on every aisle, the company said. Barry Medford, manager of the Union store, said the layout of the stores is "easy to navigate, which will save our customers time as they shop for everyday necessities." [44] The stores also include energy-efficient technology and environmentally friendly features to reduce energy and water consumption and minimize waste, the company said. Both new stores have a full line of groceries, bakery goods, deli foods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products and fresh produce, more than 30 merchandise departments, a pharmacy, hair salon, bank and a Wal-mart Connect Center.[44]
The food is the same, it is the labor costs that drive everything up. Plus, Wal-Mart has more stores than anyone, and can negotiate a cheaper price because they buy in volume.[31] You wouldn't need a FoodMaxx or Wal-Mart if prices at other grocery stores weren't so high.[34] I can't afford name-brand stuff, and the Aldi store brand is usually superior quality and taste to the "great value" brand. Aldi meats are good, their milk is $1/gallon cheaper than Walmart, their produce is great, too. I dont see these items they purchased to be a fair comparision. For those really watching their money, some of this stuff would not be purchased at a grocery store.[31] Aldi grocery store is a great place to save some money. If you're worried about quality they have a double guarantee. They will replace the product and refund your money if you're unhappy with it. They don't have everything and sometimes you have to be choosey about what you get but the savings are worth it.[31]
No I don't work at the other grocery stores in spfd. KY3 seems to work for Wal Mart you give them several minutes of free air time you shouldn't promote one business just report the news.[31] If I were to go to all the grocery stores in town, I would have needed the entire newscast for my report! However, I'm glad you're able to share your own tips online for others to see.[31]

According to Austin police reports, Wal-Mart officials became suspicious when the woman, 21, tried to return $1,930 worth of goods to Wal-Mart at approximately 6 p.m. Police were notified the suspect was reportedly trying to pass a bad check, but upon arrival found that not to be true. The suspect, who was detained by Asset Protection at the store, initially told police she didn'''t know what was going on. [37] Two teenagers were scammed out of their wallets, cell phones and an iPod by two men posing as undercover police officers at the Wal-Mart early Wednesday morning. Officials said the impersonators offered to sell the teens marijuana at about 3:30 a.m. as they sat in their car in the store's parking lot and offered to sell them marijuana. When the teens refused, the con artists ordered them from their car, told them to put their hands on their car and frisked them. "They slapped them around a little," said Raynham Police Chief Louis J. Pacheco. The phony cops asked for their wallets, took their iPods and drove off on Route 44 East in a black Isuzu trooper.[45] The tape shows the two men get out of a black SUV and approach the other car. Police said the pair asked the teens inside, an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old from Bridgewater and Berkley, if they want to buy marijuana. When the teens said no, they flashed their wallets like badges and said they were undercover cops. Other Wal-Mart shoppers are saying they will'be extra careful now. "When you have someone impersonating officer it's almost like you have to come up with different system that will recognize them as police officers other than I'm a cop," said Diane Buckley, a shopper. Police are worried this will undermine people's faith in real officers. "It goes to the core of trust between police and people," Pacheco said. They got away with cell phones, wallets and an ipod. They will be charged with unarmed robbery and impersonating a police officer if they are caught. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.)[46]
RAYNHAM, Mass. -- Police are hoping surveillance footage can help them find two men who impersonated police officers and robbed two teens. Surveillance cameras at the Raynham Wal-Mart caught two teens being hauled out of their car, roughed up and robbed by two men who said they were police officers. "You don't fight back, you don't do anything, you go along with the program with the police and you get snookered, you get tricked, you get humiliated and these guys get bounced around," said Chief Louis Pacheco, of the Raynham Police Department.[46] Add the Atlanta metro area. Today we got a message about this sent to the mobile computers in our patrol cars with a directive to patrol the Wal-Mart. A friend of mine is a police officer and said it's true.[25] WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A message warning women about possible gang-related activity at a local Wal-Mart is circulating throughout the area, but authorities are saying there is no reason for alarm.[19] FL,--A message warning about a possible gang-related shooting at an area Wal-Mart tonight has resulted in several calls into our newsroom this afternoon.[12]
Bakersfield Police have received numerous calls about what appears to be a planned gang-related shooting at an unknown Wal-Mart in the area.[40] The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, Port St. Lucie police and Fort Pierce police received several calls from people concerned about the text, but do not feel that there is any viable threat.[19]
Two Wal-Mart Supercenters employing more than 600 people are set to open in Cedar Hills in northern Utah County and in Hurricane on Wednesday. Both stores will open to customers at 8 a.m.[47] "However, all three agencies will continue to work with all Wal-Mart stores within St. Lucie County to ensure the safety of all."[19] All three agencies will continue to work with all Wal-Marts stores within St. Lucie County to ensure the safety of all." If you want the best prices on any grains, nuts, herbs, spices, dried fruit, and tons more. go to Mama Jean's! I'm surprised no one has made this comment yet. They have good deals on other stuff, and the produce is the best quality in Springfield because it's organic and/or grown locally. They go out of their way to support local farmers and growers too. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but in the past month, after using my check card to buy groceries at Wal-Mart on two separate occasions, and for amounts of approximately $200.00, my bank was charged twice for the amounts of my purchases. My bank caught the mistake, fortunately, and called to tell me they had corrected it on my account. If this happened very many times, the "extra savings" wouldn't matter at Wal-Mart.[31] Rolando Garcia, a San Juan police detective, said the rumor is false. San Juan police have beefed up their Wal-Mart patrols, if only to ease the minds of shoppers, Garcia said. He added that local police do not believe there's any credible information behind the warning.[4] As I was coming home I received a text from my paranoid niece warning me to not go to Wal-Mart. I hope it's just a rumor, it sounds like it.[25] I hope it is a rumor cuz it's bad when you can't go shop at wal-mart cuz of violence like this.[25]
A Google news search referencing '''Wal-Mart''' and '''gang''' brings up results from various other news sources across the country dispelling the rumor.[41] The message pertained to prospective gang members having to kill two to three women at a Wal-Mart in order to join the gang.[27] The message says prospective gang members will be initiated by murdering 2-3 women at a Wal-Mart.[23]
The message says "Albuquerque Police are asking that no women go to Wal-Mart tonight.[7] One of the messages reads: 'Shreveport and Bossier police are asking that no women go to Wal-Mart tonight.[5]
Bossier City police say the messages surfaced in 2005 and threatened Wl-Mart stores in Memphis, Tenn.[5] Police are asking people to stop forwarding the message. Who's behind the hoax? That's still not clear, but state police say it surfaced in Memphis back in 2005.[7] Police said all indications are that the mass message is a hoax and an attempt to start an urban myth.[22]
Bakersfield police are trying to determine if a widespread, text-message warning that shootings will occur Thursday at Wal-Mart are real or a hoax.[24] Smith isn't telling investigators much, but the police report details other potential suspects from all over Minnesota - so far though, no one else is in custody. Wal-Mart didn't want to comment on this investigation, but says the arrest is likely the result of extensive training for employees in hopes of spotting fraudulent activities.[30] RAYNHAM, Mass., (WPRI) - Police in Raynham are investigating after two men pretending to be police officers robbed unsuspecting teens at a Wal-Mart on Wednesday. The victims told police two men had approached their vehicle asking if they wanted to buy some drugs. Once the victims refused they say the suspects claimed to be police officers and forced them from their car. The teen victims tell police the men pushed and slapped them then stole their wallets, cell phones, and an IPOD. The thieves are described as two men both over 6 feet tall, weighing around 200 pounds. A third suspect was driving the get-a-way car identified as a black Isuzu Trooper.[49] Robbers posing as police officers forced two men out of their vehicles at a Raynham Wal-Mart early Wednesday morning, then pushed them around, slapped them and made them put their hands on the car before stealing their wallets and phones.[50] Two men claiming to be police officers are wanted for robbing two teens in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Raynham.[51]
The unarmed robbery occurred at 3:20 a.m. on March 18 in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Raynham Woods Commerce Center across from a Courtyard By Marriott. The victims - a 19-year old Bridgewater resident and an 18-year old from Berkley told police that two men approached them as they sat in their car and asked them if they wanted to "buy weed." When they said "no," the suspects took their wallets, cell phones and an IPOD, police say.[50]
The enthusiasm over the figures was tempered, however, by the fact that February accounts for only about 6 percent of retailer sales annually. Hedge Fund manager William Ackman planned to nominate himself and four others to the board of Target Corp., the discount chain whose performance has trailed Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Ackman, who heads Pershing Square Capital Management LP, told Bloomberg Television that he will propose Richard Vague, a former bank executive; Jim Donald, who served as CEO at Starbucks Corp. ; Michael Ashner, chairman and CEO of Winthrop Realty Trust Inc. ; and Ronald Gilson, a law professor at Stanford University and Columbia University.[32] The first Wal-Mart store in Noblesville was built in 1986 north of the current location and the Supercenter was built in 1997.[36] Amy Wyatt-Moore, a spokeswoman for Wal-mart Stores, said both the Laurens and Union stores were discount stores that have relocated to Supercenters.[44] Once card check (no more secret unionization ballots) is passed, the unions will target Wal-Mart. Once they unionize, their prices will go through the roof (compared to what they are now), and they will be in line with the rest of the stores.[31]
A Wal-Mart shopper is an Aldi shopper and an Aldi shopper is a Wal-Mart shopper." Route 44 is also a well-traveled retail corridor for both Taunton and Raynham residents and has good highway access. The company is renovating an 18,000-square-foot space in the mall that includes Bed, Bath & Beyond, Staples, Bob's Stores, Dollar Tree, D'Angelo's, Papa Gino's and It's A Party.[52] The grand opening is May 4. According to the company's Web site, Aldi makes its low pricing possible by sticking to minimal overhead and waste. It opens in small retail spaces and offers a limited, but fast-moving assortment of mostly store brand products.[52]
Mike Duff has written about retail and related fields over 20 years. His work has appeared in publications as diverse as Retailing Today, Drug Store News, Supermarket Business, Consumer Digest, MarketingWeek, American Food and Ag Exporter magazines.[38] The typical WalMart employs 400 to 600 people in a 24 hour store. These are people who will get access to affordable healthcare insurance, vacation, sick leave and a host of other benefits after they have been with the company a short while. These are people that may still, in some cases, require assistance from the taxpayers but it will be much less then if they didn't work. Keep in mind they pay taxes too. Many think that WalMart is evil but how many people would not have jobs without them? How many would not be able to afford the clothes and food and other items Walmart sells if they were not there? This is a win for Tallahassee and the taxpayers.[39] Add OKC, OK to the list. How funny, my sis works at Frys foods in Arizona, and she just called me to warn mea customer that comes in all the time got the text too and told her. My mom works at walmart in colorado and cops came and told her the same info.[25]
Now I work at Target for $7.10/hr. Walmart doesn't care who they hurt as long as they build more stores and make more money.[31] Mark, As a single mother I made $10.90/hr cashiering at Albertsons until Walmart built another store near and forced Albertsons to close.[31]
A Rochester woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of fraud after she tried returning nearly $2,000 of goods to the Austin Wal-Mart that were from another store.[37] Wal-Mart spokesman Jason Wetzel said the store is working with the city to add a center on the north end of the building to better serve customers.[36] An exception to Wal-Mart's well-known flat structures, the store was built with pitched roofs, cupolas and copper flashing to fit the city's posh surroundings.[33]
Petragallo says the city is working with Wal-Mart on the issue and sent extra patrol cars to the area as a precaution. '''We are asking people to not forward to others,''' he said. '''There does not appear to be any credible evidence to show that this is a bona fide threat.'''[41] Associates at the Cedar Hills Supercenter selected the city to receive a $5,000 grant to build trails and improve recreational areas, in an effort to encourage healthy lifestyles. Other grants will support programs and activities at nearby schools, the Boy Scouts and the police and fire departments.[33] Inappropriate? Alert us. I thank our police department and chief Zook here in Sylacauga AL.they have been on this all day I pray for my city and the polices accross the world and my prayers go out to the ones who make these kind of rumors and that God will save and forgive them.[2] A dispatcher at the Columbia Police Department said that information has been coming in all day, and that it is simply a rumor.[18]
Inappropriate? Alert us. I tried to tell my family and friends to disregard this message after speaking with a Sgt. with the Birmingham police dept. today. It is so easy to spread a rumor that gets out of hand like this one.[2]
I just got 2 text messages from friends saying there will be a shooting in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The messages said they saw it on the news. Just got the same text message I'm in charlotte NC. I think it's bs but I'm glad I'm not a woman.[25] A series of threatening text messages fooled their share of Southwest Florida recipients this afternoon.[13]

Where do you shop for clothes, what are these restaurants you mention, and how often do you go to the movies? Since you are anonymous why don't you just share how much you are compensated in your job. I find it a tad humerous all those people who claim shopping at our local Wal-Mart doesn't support the local infostructure. did they stop to think about the hundreds of local people employeed at all of these stores. they do spend money in the community too. [31] Is there something wrong with that? If you think there is, you are on the wrong side, the tiny minority that will not shop Wal-Mart. Tell all your complaints to the 220 plus associates who are now with a job to provide for their families. when their family is hungry and the bills are due im sure where walmart get their products is the least of their concern.so if your so pro made in america throw all the imported products you own away and see how far you get through your day.[39]
Bringing up the rear is Dillons. Even after using its free customer loyalty card, which promises discounts on many items, our total bill was $44.63, $2.43 more than its closest competitor and $10.73 more than Wal-Mart.[31] In first place, perhaps no surprise, was Wal-Mart, where our items cost a total of $33.90.[31] " Who can actually survive on $800.00 a month? Me, my neighbor, and that crazy lady with all the cats that lives down the street. "It is people like you who make this world a worse place to live in."[31]
Small minded people are what have put the economy in the situation it is in today. Thanks KY3 for doing this most helpful article I will be switching to Harter House. Gosh people, Ky3 tried to help us out by doing this report and all you can do is bash them because they didn't shop every store and buy a ton of items! geese, lighten up! Thank you Ky3.[31] I love you people who bash Walmart. Lets put them out of business and then buy your groceries locally to support Springfield and see how far your money goes. You don't realize that they help keep the prices down due to competition. For that girl that says her family can't afford Harter House? I buy all my meat there because its cheaper! Plus they do have the best service in town! Walmart isn't the problem people.[31]
Harter House is the nicest grocery store in town with the best service, hands down.[31] Common sense should tell you that KY-3 could only compare the largest grocery stores carrying the same name brand items.[31] As the previous comment from Craig said, you did not identify the brands or sizes that you purchased. You have to compare unit sizes and price both. Some stores are more expensive on name brands, yet their store brands are the exact same thing at a much cheaper price.[31] Monday, Mar 16 at 9:30 PM Craig wrote. This price check could have been done behind a desk. You don't ID the brand or sizes I shop at a store I can trust and they are not from Arkansas.[31]
Not that everyone is predicting immediate intensification of private label price rivalries. Speaking at Reuters Food and Agriculture Summit this week, Andrea Thomas, Wal-Mart '''s senior vice president of private brands, discussed Wal-Mart'''s refurbished Great Value label.[38]
Wal-Mart does not have the storage space for that. That is the reason that Wal-Mart's in this area get their goods from the St. James distribution center. They are point of sale and logged into the computer when you buy something, and when it needs 5 more blue washcloths, they order just 5 blue wash cloths from the distribution center. The main issue with WM is that they don't invest locally in the banks but rather send the funds to Arkansas headquarters.[31] Food4Less has the worst meat. Anything they run on sale they don't trim the fat at all. The ground chuck they have, has the most grease when you cook it than any of the stores. Makes you wonder what they put in it. Walmart's generic cans (Best Value) You have to watch because some of its comming from china.[31] Despite that the Orange County Sheriff's Office says it is stepping up patrols near Walmart stores as a precaution.[1] When a majority of voters in the small Utah County city rejected a provisional 2005 city ordinance that would ban stores from operating on Sunday and selling beer, it ripened the city's commercial appeal.[33] The grand opening of the medium-sized store signifies the end of a yearlong struggle between the world's largest retailer and Cedar Hills, which held the big-box giant to high building standards and halted previous negotiations because city officials didn't like some of the store's items and store hours.[33]
Apparently, the telephone callers had bought into an urban legend that the parking lot of the Selma store would be a battle ground for gang initiation. Now, if they had only stopped to think.[43] A horrible gang initiation threat is being seen all over cell phones in Southeast Texas.[8] I was just a walmart an hour ago here in CHANDLER, AZ. A cashier told my husband about this gang initiation.[25] The possible gang initiation was going to involve the shooting of three women.[40] There is a gang initiation and three women will be shot. This is not a joke.[19]

A threat of gang violence tonight at Wal-Mart, 2300 Sycamore Road, appears to be a hoax. [41] If there were no Wal-Mart, ALL the goods would be purchased from a larger U.S. employee base within all the Local, Small, and American Made Businesses that were run out of town in every State in every City in every Community market that Wal-Mart entered.[39] My local Aldi is cleaner and the staff is much friendlier than the Wal-Mart.[31]
A discount food chain expanding into Massachusetts is banking that recessionary minded shoppers in Raynham willfind its no-frills operation attractive. Aldi opened its first store in Southeastern Iowa in 1976 and now has 1,000 stores in 29 states. It will open its first store in the state in Raynham in Cape Road Crossing next to Bob's Store.[52] Food 4 Less is the best-kept secret in Spfld. $1.38/lb for ground chuck, as low as 69 cents/lb for chicken, $1.38 for a bottle of Marzetti's salad dressing yesterday, consistently lower on staples, fresh produce, canned soup, pasta, canned vegetables and beans, etc. Nice staff and clean store, too.[31] At designated clearance racks along the aisle of the store, shoppers can find clothing items, including men'''s, women'''s and children'''s apparel, for $1, $5, $7, $9 and $10.[48]
"An alert employee was suspicious about the return and started doing a little checking,' says Police Chief Paul Phillip. That checking revealed the Minnesota Financial Crimes Task Force has been investigating a theft ring involving retail stores statewide.[30] The 107,000-square-foot plaza at 600 South St. West was built in 1974 and once housed a Mars department store, a disco club and a movie theater. It slid in the 1990s and was almost empty in 2003 when its longtime anchor Kmart shuttered its doors. It has since experienced a retail renaissance of sorts with the advent of major retailers.[52]
Moore said people wanting to apply for a job at one of the stores should do so at the individual stores. She said a majority of the associates have been hired, but applications are still being accepted.[44] Lord help you if you notice you're being charge the wrong thing and speak up about it. They'll act like you're trying to rob them blind when you say you want the sale price. Come back 1 or 2 days later and the sale price still will not be entered into their computers. They'll keep charging you full price, even though it's "on sale."[31] The city better not come crying to the citizens about a budget deficit and how services need to be cut and people laid off and recommend another sales tax. They had a chance to alleviate the revenue problem but didn't.[34] I shop Aldi's, Dillons and Pricecutter on a regular basis. I've had good experiences and bad experiences with all of them but for the most part-I'm working to build a pantry and purchase primarily sale items (fill with fresh fruits, veggies, milk). I don't think it's a terrible report but I think there are ways to save more.[31] I want the best for my money. Harter House last week had 9 roll of Charmin for $10.99 in their sale ad, Pricecutter's has ran the same item for weeks now at $3.99, so where is the greed.[31]

Since the stores are basically in a row where I'm located it cuts down driving time and gas if I can't shop just one. In some stores you can request an item from the manager so they can order it from a warehouse. [31] Learn to stop speading rumors and learn to mind you own. Oh, c'mon "Bigkuntry" I get this sort of garbage in my "inbox" all the time from people who live in the "BIG" towns. There are little groups of people all over the place who fuel this stuff, and telling them that they are wrong is useless. Selma is not alone in this.[43] Raynham police officials said the men approached two teenagers who were sitting in a parked car Wednesday afternoon. The men asked the teens if they wanted to "buy weed," police said. When the teens said no, they were forced from their vehicle, slapped and made to put their hands on their vehicle, police say. At that time, the men said they were police officers and took the teens' wallets and phones and an iPod.[51] If anyone has information one way or the other, please call police at 327-7111.[24] Law enforcement agencies in Georgia and Florida received calls in reference to the message.[27] Atkins said the department had received calls from as far as Spindale and Morganton about the message circulating today.[10]
Have news tips, event listings or feedback? Find the department your message pertains to.[41]

There were complaints about traffic and congestion. Wal-Mart just submitted plans to demolish it's old building on Montara Road to create a 195,000 square foot grocery and retail center. [53] Please do more research there are more grocery stores out there than just what was listed.[31] If you are on a tight budget, you aren't purchasing Tide or toilet paper here. These are typical dollar store items that are always much less than the grocery store. If you are affording Tide with all the other detergent options, this story doesn't pretain to you either.[31] SPRINGFIELD -- With plenty of grocery stores from which to choose, we wanted to know where you get the most for your money.[31]
