The caller was to meet with Orange County Sheriff's detectives to produce a composite sketch of the woman seen with the girl, according to Cindy Anthony. Casey Anthony has been in prison since last week, when she finally reported her toddler daughter missing July 15 at her parents' urging. She was arrested on charges of child endangerment, making false officials statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Detectives have said that almost nothing Casey Anthony has told them about her child's disappearance has checked out to be true. They haven't even been able to get information about the child's father, who Anthony has said is dead, Orange County Det. Yuri Melich testified at her bond hearing on Tuesday. Cindy Anthony has reportedly said little about Caylee's dad, other than he was never married to Casey Anthony, had no involvement in Caylee's life and died a few years ago in a traffic accident which the grandmother said she learned about in a local obituary, according to MyFOX Orlando. Her attorney denies that his client has been lying to police and says she's been cooperating. He and her family want her released so she can help in the search for the girl. Baez told FOX News on Thursday that he has not found or seen any evidence of substance abuse by Casey Anthony and knows of no history of mental health problems. Cindy Anthony declined to answer questions about whether her daughter was a "habitual liar," as her friends have claimed, and said it doesn't concern her that police suspect Casey might have done something to her granddaughter. [1] The Orlando woman was charged with child endangerment, making false officials statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. She was denied bail at a hearing last week. She is currently being held without bond in Orange County. Each side involved in the case has its own version. Police investigators said the negligent mother has been lying to them all along and misled them in their investigation. Casey Anthony's attorney Jose Baez said his client has been cooperating and wants to help investigators. The woman's mother Cindy, told CBS News' The Early Show that her daughter should be released so she can help detectives. "She is a good mother and has no history of being a bad mother. She wants to find her daughter," Baez said. The little girl's grandmother actually testified that her daughter is a good mother and hasn't committed a crime but had lied to her in the past and also has had some trouble keeping jobs. "Casey's lied to me in the past and when she's lied she's always told me the truth ' we've gotten to the bottom of the truth when I talk to her and spend time with her," said Cindy Anthony according to FOXNews.com.[2]
In the week since Caylee was reported missing, the case has received national media attention, and tips from across the country have poured in to Orange County investigators. They have questioned Casey Anthony and her family members, friends and associates but have been unable to uncover key information. Who, for example, is Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, the woman Casey Anthony claims to have left Caylee with on the morning of June9? Why did Casey Anthony borrow a neighbor's shovel for an hour in mid- to late June? What caused a cadaver dog to lead investigators to the stench in the trunk as well as a corner of the Anthony family backyard? Where did Casey Anthony spend the past month? And why did she repeatedly lie to investigators? "Her past conduct is strange and is difficult to describe," Strickland said when he set her unusually high bond. "She hasn't been any help in this investigation. as to the whereabouts of her daughter." It's unclear whether Casey Anthony's family can afford to get her out of jail. Her attorney, Jose Baez, objected to the amount, saying "$500,000 is tantamount to no bond at all." The attorney said he planned to meet with the Anthony family to discuss the next steps and said he may appeal the ruling to a higher court. During Tuesday's hearing, Casey Anthony cried when her family members took the stand but sat largely unemotional while investigators described their findings in the case so far.[3]
The trunk of Casey Anthony's car reeked of death. Strands of hair, a mysterious stain and bits of dirt found in the trunk of Anthony's white Pontiac have led Orange County Sheriff's Office investigators to think it's possible that her daughter, 2-year-old Caylee Marie, is dead and her mother may be involved. Those startling details about the investigation into the disappearance of Caylee emerged for the first time Tuesday in a lengthy bond hearing. Describing the case as "absolutely bizarre," Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland set Anthony's bail at more than $500,000 and ordered her to be monitored by a GPS device if she posts bail. Strickland said he thinks Anthony has no intention of aiding investigators in finding Caylee and that the testimony he heard in court will "keep me up tonight."[3] "Before, just before I came into (current position), I was a homicide detective for two years with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and in my experience, the smell that I smelled inside that car was of decomposition." A judge set bond at $500,000 for the girl's mother, who was charged with obstructing the investigation after investigators say she lied to them. Circuit Judge Stan Strickland said he's concerned that evidence presented in court possibly implicates 22-year-old Anthony in Caylee's death. Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, said investigators have made the process more difficult by taking Casey into custody when they did. "My client told me that she does not know where Caylee is," Baez said.[4]
MIAMI (AP) — The grandmother of a missing 2-year-old Orlando girl told an emergency dispatcher that a car driven by the girl's mother smelled like there had been a dead body inside, according to recordings of 911 calls released Thursday. The mother, Casey Anthony, 22, is being held on $500,000 bond after investigators said she lied to them and did not report daughter Caylee Marie Anthony missing for more than a month. Prosecutors said in court earlier this week that Casey Anthony is also a person of interest in what is beginning to look like a homicide investigation, though she has not been charged. Sheriff's deputies testified that her car smelled of decomposition and a cadaver-trained German shepherd noted a smell of human remains there.[5] Prosecutors say the case of missing 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony of Orlando is beginning to look like a homicide. A judge set bond at $500,000 Tuesday for the girl's mother, Casey Anthony who, was charged with obstructing the investigation after investigators say she lied to them.[6] ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Prosecutors in Florida say the case of a missing 2-year-old Orlando girl is beginning to look like a homicide. A judge set bond at $500,000 Tuesday for the girl's mother, who was charged with obstructing the investigation after investigators say she lied to them. Circuit Judge Stan Strickland says he's concerned that evidence presented in court possibly implicates 22-year-old Casey Anthony in 2-year-old Caylee's death.[7]
"My daughter's been missing for the last 31 days," Casey Anthony said. When a dispatcher asked why she hadn't come to the police earlier, she claimed that she had done her own searching. "I've been looking for her (the baby sitter) and have gone through other resources to try to find her - which was stupid," Casey Anthony said. Casey Anthony is still in jail this afternoon, but if her family posts the $500,000-plus bail, she will not be allowed outside their home. That change in Casey Anthony's supervision came Wednesday, after Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland modified his order to home confinement - a stricter level of surveillance. Anthony was arrested July 16 after allegedly telling investigators a series of lies about her daughter's disappearance. A sheriff's investigator said in court Tuesday that based on a smell and other evidence in Anthony's car, it's possible Caylee is dead and her mother is involved.[8] Caylee's mother, 22-year-old Casey Marie Anthony, remained jailed in Orange County, Fla., Thursday. Earlier this week a judge set her bond at $500,000, 10 percent of which her family is trying to raise for her release. Police haven't named a suspect in the child's disappearance, but have called Casey Anthony a "person of interest," after saying they detected the odor of human decomposition and found dirt and strands of hair similar to Caylee's in the trunk of a car driven by Casey Anthony. Cadaver dogs searched the grandparents' property last week after a neighbor told them Casey Anthony borrowed a shovel around the time her small daughter was last seen.[1] The Sheriff's Office has dismissed Baez's comments as ridiculous. An Orange County judge set bail for Casey Anthony at $500,000, but if she is released, she will be held to home confinement. Casey's attorney said the amount should have been more like $10,000 because she has no criminal past. The judge said the high bond was in order because of Casey's strange behavior and her lack of cooperation since it was learned her daughter had been missing for five weeks. Casey's mother, Cynthia, reported Caylee missing last week, saying she hadn't seen her granddaughter in more than a month. Casey said she had left the child with a babysitter.[9]
A judge set Casey Anthony's bond at $500,000. She was denied bail at a hearing last week. Caylee's grandmother is now pleading for her daughter's release. On CBS's Early Show, she said, "I don't think she can tell police anything. She has her reasons why she can't be completely honest." At a news conference on Monday, Casey's defense attorney, Jose Baez, said his client was willing to cooperate with law enforcement but asked that any information should be used to help find Caylee and not prosecute his client. "There is a reason for Casey lying to investigators, but cannot be disclosed at this time."[10] There's nothing but love." She said her daughter should be released from jail "because she hasn't committed a crime" and because she needs to help find Caylee. Cindy Anthony speculated on the stand that someone was threatening her daughter and that's why she hasn't told the whole story about where Caylee is. Earlier Tuesday, Cindy Anthony said Casey left the child in the care of someone she trusted, but that person betrayed her. In an interview on FOX News Tuesday morning, she implied that her granddaughter might have been kidnapped. Casey Anthony has been in prison since last week, when she finally reported her toddler daughter missing on Wednesday at her parents' urging. Caylee was last seen June 9, according to Anthony who investigators say has spun a Web of lies in their interviews with her. She was arrested on charges of child endangerment, making false officials statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Her attorney denies that his client has been lying to police and says she's been cooperating.[11] Prosecutors have said the case could be turning into a homicide investigation; defense lawyers have conceded that there is enough circumstantial evidence to point to a possible killing, but there isn't enough to charge Casey Anthony with a crime. Cindy Anthony disputed investigators' claims about detecting the scent of human decomposition, suggesting instead that it was the smell of old food or garbage they'd picked up instead. "Do me a favor," she said. Cindy Anthony discounted the decomposition testimony after she received a tip that a child matching Caylee's description had been seen at the Orlando International Airport boarding a flight to Atlanta. Cindy Anthony said the tip was from a woman who lives in Orlando and was left on her voicemail. The grandmother said she called the woman back and they talked. The tip was even more credible because the person reported that the little girl pronounced her last name the same way Caylee does, Casey Anthony's defense attorney Jose Baez told FOX News.[1] ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- The lawyer for Casey Anthony, mother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, disclosed late Tuesday that the family had received a credible tip that a small child matching Caylee's description was seen boarding a flight to Atlanta at Orlando International Airport. The tip was even more credible because the person reported that the little girl pronounced her last name the same way Caylee's grandparents say she does, attorney Jose Baez told FOX News.[12]
Casey is also being held in jail on two other disclosed holds. Police say these are considered to be "internal holds," and by law their information is not released to the public. Detectives spoke with the woman who says she saw Caylee at the Orlando Airport in early July. She told police she saw the little girl with a woman in her 30's or 40's who boarded a flight to Atlanta. Investigators said they only knew about the tip after Casey's attorney, Jose Baez, spoke about it on FOX News. Casey's mother, Cindy, says she cannot always check all the messages they receive right away. This worries investigators, who say that in missing child cases, seconds count. If you have any information that could help police in their investigation to find Caylee, call the CRIMELINE AT 1-800-423 TIPS (8477).[13]
The lead detective testified that cadaver dogs smelled human decomposition in the family's back yard and Casey Anthony's car. "They found hair samples in the trunk of the car that are similar in length and color of that of Caylee. They also found a stain in the trunk of the car that came up under black light as questionable," Orange County Sheriff's Office Detective Yuri Melich said. "Casey has said from the beginning she was kidnapped. What do you call it when someone takes someone and keeps them when they're not supposed to keep them? It's a kidnapping," said Cindy Anthony, the missing girl's grandmother. Investigators said they're continuing to process evidence in the case and continue to treat Caylee's disappearance as a missing persons investigation -- not a homicide.[14] At a bond hearing on Wednesday, authorities named Caylee Anthony's mother, Casey Anthony, 22, a "person of interest" in the toddler's June disappearance after investigators found "evidence of decomposition" in the trunk of the same car. In the calls made by Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, which were released Thursday, she claimed she had "a possible missing child."[15]
Investigators are questioning whether the woman exists, Local 6 reported. The girl's grandmother said she has never met the baby sitter but has heard stories about her for years. Casey Anthony said she dropped her daughter off at the baby sitter's apartment on June 9. When she returned, she said the baby sitter and Caylee were missing. When detectives returned to the apartment last week, they discovered the apartment has been vacant for months and that no one named Zenaida lived there. Casey Anthony has never described how they could find Zenaida, Local 6's Mike DeForest reported. "I trust Casey wholeheartedly that where Casey says she is, is where she is," Cindy Anthony said. "I think Casey had every intention of picking up Caylee from the baby sitter on June 9 but when she found out that the baby sitter was reluctant, or refused or said, 'You are not getting her back,' Casey panicked."[16] "There is no evidence against my daughter. They have been building a case and not looking for Caylee from Day One." Casey Anthony was arrested last week on child-neglect and other charges after detectives accused her of telling a string of lies about her daughter's disappearance. Anthony, 22, told investigators she hadn't seen the girl since June9 when she dropped her off at a baby sitter. In court Tuesday, Cindy Anthony said she now remembers tucking Caylee in with her mother at bedtime on Father's Day, June15.[3]
Christina Baez said the Anthony family is hoping to bond Casey out of jail as soon as possible, but the bail is "outrageous." "The Anthony's are a very strong family and they believe in their daughter's innocence," she said. "They're pulling together as a family and trying to see what they can do for their daughter." Baez also spoke about a tip Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, received Tuesday from a woman who said she saw a girl who looks like Caylee at Orlando International Airport: The woman told Anthony she was at OIA en route to Atlanta on July 2 when a girl approached her to play with her dog. The woman said she asked the girl what her name was. She said Caylee Marie Anthony. She pronounced Anthony as "Antony." Baez said that is how Caylee pronounced her last name. "They were 99 percent sure that is the Caylee they're seeing on TV," Baez said.[17] We want to find Caylee." Baez also told reporters that his law office is conducting its own investigation, because "police in our opinion has been focusing more on prosecuting her than exonerating her. It's absolutely absurd that she was denied bond." He said his client is "doing her best to keep it together" in jail. "They have put her in a situation that is very difficult. Her underwear is taken from her. All she has is a blanket in a small room." Sheriff's detectives said they have few new leads. Authorities are looking into the family's claims that Casey Anthony received a mysterious call from her daughter last Tuesday. Orlando police said they interviewed dozens of acquaintances of Casey Anthony in their search for any clues on the child's disappearance. "We believe Casey knows where the girl is because everything she's told us so far has turned out to be lies," Orlando sheriff's spokesman Carlos Padilla told FOXNews.com on Sunday. "We're making phone calls to anyone who has had contact with her to see if she's said something."[18]
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Casey Anthony will be released on bond. Anthony, 22, who was arrested last week after reporting the disappearance of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony and charged with child neglect and criminal obstruction for lying to detectives had her bond set at $500,000 at the conclusion of a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon. Circuit Judge Stan Strickland says he's concerned that evidence presented in court possibly implicates Anthony in 2-year-old Caylee's death.[6] Casey Anthony, 22, is charged only with child neglect and lying to investigators. Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland set her bond at $500,000 Tuesday, saying the law did not allow him to hold her without bail. He set the unusually high amount after hearing about evidence of human decomposition allegedly found in Anthony's yard and car. Her daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony, has been missing since mid-June. "Not a bit of useful information has been provided by Ms. Anthony as to the whereabouts of her daughter," Strickland said.[19] Casey Anthony has been charged only with child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland ordered her held on an unusually high bond Tuesday after hearing the evidence of possible human decomposition found in her yard and car. Strickland said she offered investigators no useful information and questioned the truthfulness of the information she did provide.[5]
The Orlando mother of the missing 2-year-old girl is trying to convince authorities to let her out of prison while police investigators are searching for the baby girl and the girl's grandmother testifies in court. Casey Anthony, 22, contacted police about her missing baby daughter five months after it went missing. A bond hearing was scheduled for her on Tuesday afternoon. The mother was put under arrest last week after she told police that she hasn't seen her baby girl named Caylee Marie Anthony since June 9.[2] ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- A bond hearing is underway for the mother of a 2-year-old central Florida girl missing since early June. Casey Anthony, 22, was arrested last week after reporting the disappearance of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony.[20] A judge set bond at half a million dollars for the mother of a missing Orlando 2-year-old Tuesday after detectives testified that she is a "person of interest" in the little girl's disappearance. Casey Marie Anthony, 22, has been jailed since last week and was hoping to win release at a bond hearing in Orange County, Fla. The whopping $500,000 she needs to post will make it difficult for Anthony to get her wish.[11] The Anthonys worked on Wednesday to come up with the money needed to make a $500,000 bond set on Tuesday by an Orange County judge. During Tuesday's bond hearing, Anthony was named a person of interest in the disappearance of her daughter, Caylee, who has been missing since June. Authorities charged the mother with child neglect for waiting several weeks before she reported the toddler missing.[14]
Half a million dollars was the final bail set at Tuesday's hearing for Casey Anthony, the Florida mother of the missing 2 year old girl. The Florida woman has been held in an Orange County, Florida jail since last week in reference to the disappearance of her daughter, 2 year old Caylee. The half million dollar bail wasn't much of a surprise after detectives named Anthony as a "person of interest" in her daughter's disappearance. During the bail hearing, Orange County Detective Yuri Melich testified that Anthony had become a "person of interest" in her daughter's disappearance and that "evidence of human decomposition" was discovered in the trunk of Anthony's car.[21] Caylee was reported missing a week ago to Orange County Sheriff's officials. The child's mother, Casey Anthony, told investigators she hadn't seen her daughter since June 9 when she dropped her off at the baby sitters house.[22] Baez offered no specific details on either claim, citing attorney-client privilege. Anthony was arrested for child neglect and lying to police after she reported Caylee missing last Wednesday. Anthony told police she dropped the toddler off with a babysitter on June 9, but investigators have been unable to verify that claim. Local authorities have been frustrated by statements from Anthony that they say are vague and sometimes untrue, since she reported her daughter missing a full five weeks after the toddler's disappearance. "She hasn't told us anything," Orange County Deputy Sheriff Carlos Padilla told ABC News. "And the few things she has told us have turned out to be untrue. We're behind the eight-ball on this one."[23]
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Cindy Anthony says there have been two reported sightings of Caylee Marie Anthony in Georgia and she believes the child is with someone heading to Charlotte, N.C. "We know where she's at," Cindy Anthony told FOX News Thursday before pleading with the person she believes has the child to turn back. "Please don't take her further into the mountains. It looks like she's headed northeast in Georgia close to the North Carolina border. This is all very encouraging right now." Her plea came after her husband, George Anthony, asked the public in an audio message for help in finding their granddaughter before her third birthday. She's been missing since June 9.[13] The grandfather of 2-year old Caylee Marie Anthony will hand out fliers and t-shirts this morning to volunteers as they continue their search for the missing toddler. George Anthony said he is meeting volunteers at the Publix, off Chickasaw Trail and Lake Underhill Road at 11 a.m. The white T-shirts, paid for by the Never Lose Hope Foundation, feature a picture of Caylee and the phone numbers to the Orange County Sheriff's Office and Crimeline. "Come on guys, this is going to help bring home," Anthony told reporters this morning as he handed them the t-shirts outside his Hopespring Drive home. Earlier this morning, Cindy Anthony, the missing girl's grandmother, appeared on CBS's Early Show with attorney Jose Baez.[24] Sentinel Staff Writer 7:00 PM EDT, July 24, 2008 An emotionless Cindy Anthony dialed 911 July 14 to report her granddaughter Caylee Marie Anthony missing and requested deputies arrest her daughter for stealing money and a car, according to two audio recordings released this evening by the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "I have someone here who I need be arrested and a possible missing child," she told a 911 dispatcher.[8] This undated photo released by the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Fla. on July 18, 2008, shows Caylee Marie Anthony, 2, who has been missing more than a month. Her mother, Casey Marie Anthony has been arrested for alleged child neglect and providing false information to law enforcement. (AP/Orange County Sheriff's Dept.)[25]
Authorities arrested and charged Casey Anthony, with child neglect on July 17 for failing to report the disappearance, and a search for the toddler has been continuing ever since. Anthony was jailed on a $500,000 bond, and if her family is able to raise the funds needed for release, she'll be placed on home confinement and wear an ankle monitor. "We continue to ask the public to call us if they see anything, but at the same time, we want to be careful they don't start diluting the possibility of finding this child by some of these claims coming in," Orange County Sheriff's Office spokesman Carlos Padilla said. Anthony said she left Caylee with a baby sitter, and that woman is in her 20s.[26] Sentinel Staff Writers 11:29 AM EDT, July 23, 2008 The 22-year-old mother of missing toddler Caylee Marie Anthony remains in the Orange County Jail this afternoon. An Orange Circuit Court judge set Casey Anthony's bond at more than half a million dollars yesterday afternoon, but her family has not been able to come up with the money to bail her out. The person who posts her bail must pay 10 percent of the bond amount -- $50,000 in cash -- and have collateral to back the remaining balance.[17] Casey Anthony is still in jail this afternoon, but if her family posts the $500,000-plus bail, she will not be allowed outside their home. That change in Casey Anthony's supervision came Wednesday, after Orange County Circuit Judge Stan Strickland modified his order to home confinement - a stricter level of surveillance. Strickland originally ordered on Tuesday that the child's mother be placed on a GPS monitoring device, which would allow her more freedom, but still provide her exact location. The modified ruling does not include any allowances, such as attorney visits or medical appointments. The corrections officer assigned to the home confinement unit can allow Anthony attorney visits and medical appointments, but they must be pre-approved, Orange County Jail spokesman Allen Moore said.[27]
Casey Anthony's attorney was''calling for the''bond to be set at $10,000 on the felony and two misdemeanor charges. Judge Stan Strickland said he could not set bond at such a low amount because of the circumstances surrounding the case. Anthony did not report her daughter was missing until five weeks later, when her parents questioned her about the girl's whereabouts.[28] Cindy Anthony'''s daughter, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, is being held in jail on charges of child endangerment, lying to authorities and criminal obstruction. A judge set bail for her at $500,000, a sum her parents have not been able to raise. She continues to maintain that a baby sitter abducted her daughter Caylee in early June, but she told no one the child was missing for five weeks.[29] "I found my daughter's car today, and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car." When Cindy Anthony made her daughter talk to the dispatcher, Casey Anthony said the toddler had been taken by a baby sitter who police now believe may not exist. Casey Anthony said Caylee had been missing for 31 days, and the dispatcher asked why she hadn't called sooner. "I've been looking for her and have gone through other resources to try to find her, which was stupid," Casey Anthony responded.[5] Cindy Anthony, Casey's mother and Caylee's grandmother, called 911 twice on July 15. In the first call, she asked police to arrest Casey Anthony for stealing a car and money. She told a dispatcher that she had just found Casey, who had been missing for a month, as well as the car she was driving, which had been towed. She also expressed concern that her granddaughter was not with Casey. She called 911 again about an hour later, crying, after she said Casey Anthony finally told her Caylee had been missing for a month.[5]
Last week, investigators used cadaver-sniffing dogs and dug through Cindy Anthony's backyard looking for the toddler. Detectives say Casey Anthony asked a neighbor to borrow a shovel around the time her daughter went missing. They said she contacted police last week because the girl's grandmother was concerned. Anthony told detectives she didn't call authorities immediately because she was conducting her own investigation, according to the charging affidavit. The apartment where she said she dropped off the girl hadn't been occupied in months, and Casey Anthony gave detectives a bogus employer, manager's name and work telephone number, according to the affidavit[25] "I think whoever has Caylee, either it is that person or that someone they are connected with (who) has threatened Casey's family in some way," grandmother Cindy Anthony told The Early Show's Lara Spencer. "That could be Casey's life, my life or George's life. It is not Casey who feels threatened because Casey would take her life for her own daughter." Casey Anthony, 22, was taken into custody Wednesday after detectives determined her daughter had been missing since early June and was never reported missing. "She has her reasons why she can't be completely honest with (investigators)," Anthony said. "She told them she was fearful to go to the police. I think Casey is frightened that somebody that she feels very, um, I think Casey is frightened for another person." Cindy Anthony told Spencer she believes her daughter was betrayed by someone she trusted. "I think Casey trusted her with the same person she has trusted her with for a long time and that person has betrayed her and has since then been threatening her and that is why she can't be 100 percent honest in everything that she is telling people," Anthony said.[16]
The caller claimed to have seen Caylee board the flight with an older woman. When she talked to the woman and child, the youngster apparently said her name was Caylee "Antony," pronouncing it without the "h" the way Cindy Anthony says her granddaughter does. When asked her age, the little girl said she was 3; Caylee is almost 3 years old. A judge set bond at half a million dollars for Casey Anthony Tuesday after detectives testified that she is a "person of interest" in the little girl's disappearance. Even though Casey Anthony was granted bond, it is not likely she will get out of jail anytime soon. She has been ordered to wear GPS monitoring band and the fitting of this band can take some time.[12] Casey Anthony was arrested last week and charged with child neglect and criminal obstruction for lying to detectives. Caylee, who was last seen June 9, was reported missing by her mother last week. Anthony's lawyer, Jose Baez, said Monday that a bond hearing would be held Tuesday afternoon for his client. "My client at no time refused to speak with law enforcement," he said at a Monday press conference.[18] The lawyer for 22-year-old Florida mother Casey Anthony, whose daughter Caylee went missing last month, said at a press conference today that the 2-year-old girl may have been seen three to five days after June 9, the day her mother claims she went missing. Two-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony has been missing since June 9, 2008, but her mother reported her missing on July 16, 2008, five weeks later. Jose Baez, Anthony's lawyer, also confirmed rumors that Anthony has claimed she received a phone call from her daughter last week.[23]
The mother of a woman arrested weeks after her toddler disappeared said her daughter Casey "has her reasons why she just can't blurt out the whole story," as she begged the public to help find missing Caylee Marie Anthony, 2. "Casey has been trying to tell the police in her own way what she can tell them and the only unfortunate thing is, you know, they want a clear picture," Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, told FOX News.[18] "Do you think you can speak to your daughter one-to-one and possibly find some information that would help find Caylee?" Baez said. "I would certainly hope she would want to open up to me," Anthony's father, George, said. Anthony was denied bail at a hearing last week after investigators said the 22-year-old did nothing but lied to them. Anthony's brother testified that he tried to delay his mother from initially calling police because he said Casey maintained she knew where the child was and that she was safe. He said Casey told them she would take them to the girl in the morning.[30] Investigators believe the girl's father is dead. Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, acknowledged in court that her daughter had lied before, but said she was a caring mom. The registered nurse believes the girl is alive, and Casey Anthony lied to police because she was somehow threatened. Cindy Anthony said she would even sell her house to free her daughter. "I know Casey as a person," she said. "I know what she is for a mother and I know there's only one or two reasons why Casey would be withholding something about Caylee. I believe that it's something that someone is holding over her and threatening her in some way." Casey Anthony's face filled with tears at the hearing, watching her parents at the witness stand and again after Strickland set bail.[19]
Casey Anthony allegedly asked a neighbor to borrow a shovel around the time Caylee went missing, deputies said. That was June 9, according to detectives. They said Anthony contacted police because her mother was concerned. Authorities said Casey Anthony has repeatedly lied to investigators and showed little emotion during interviews about her daughter's whereabouts.[20] Testimony during Tuesday's bond hearing for Anthony revealed some new details and a possible connection involving Jacksonville. Anthony's mother testified that her daughter and a friend, Jeff Hopkins, vacationed in Jacksonville sometime between June 16 and July 15 -- during the time police said Caylee was already missing. According to a police report, Hopkins is one of only two people Anthony told about her missing daughter. What the two were doing in Jacksonville or where they stayed in the city remains a mystery. Investigators in Jacksonville told Channel 4 the investigation is centered in Orlando and they could not comment any further. "Of course it is their case, so we cannot confirm or deny any investigation going on here," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson. In Orlando, Anthony's mother said she would pay the bond to free her daughter.[4] Orange County investigators released information during a bond hearing that pointed toward evidence of a homicide -- however, officials are not saying Caylee is dead. Sheriff's Office officials maintain they are working a missing person case, and not a homicide investigation.[17]
During the hearing, deputies on the stand released new information, saying Casey Anthony's car was found abandoned in late June at an Amscot store on Goldenrod Road and Colonial Drive. Detective Corp. Yuri Melich, with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, said that when they recovered the vehicle at the Anthony's residence, "there was a very bad smell in the car." Search teams said they found what appeared to be Caylee's hair and some dirt in the back seat, along with a foul odor, but they have not been able to confirm what the smell was.[28] The reward will be in effect for at least the next three months. Orange County sheriff's detectives say they have few new leads. Authorities are looking into the family's claims that Casey Anthony received a mysterious call from her daughter last Tuesday. FOX News' Catherine Donaldson-Evans and The Associated Press contributed to this report.[11]
News of a tip called "credible" during an interview with the attorney of Casey Anthony, 22, Tuesday night came just hours after detectives testified at a bond hearing that her missing daughter Caylee, 2, may be dead.[30] Phone messages and an e-mail seeking comment were left Thursday with Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez. He asked to have her bond lowered to $10,000, saying she had a right to freedom while facing lesser charges. He said there was circumstantial evidence of a possible homicide but it hadn't left authorities confident enough to charge her with anything more serious. Cindy Anthony said earlier this week that Casey knows who has Caylee but doesn't know where she is.[5] In those calls, Caylee Anthony's grandmother told a 911 dispatcher on July 15 that her daughter's car smelled like a dead body, a tape of the conversation showed. Cindy Anthony asked authorities in her second call to arrest her daughter, Casey Anthony, who is Caylee's mother, for "stealing a car and money." She indicated to the 911 operator that Casey Anthony stole her car on June 30 and said she would like to speak to an officer and asked for someone to come to the house.[31] I found my daughter's car today, it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car," Cindy Anthony yelled into the receiver. When Casey Anthony, the missing girl's mother, was put on the phone, she remained calm.[8] Anthony placed the call around 8:45 p.m., and answered the dispatcher's questions impatiently. Less than an hour later, she was on the phone with dispatchers again - this time screaming and crying. She'd discovered her granddaughter had allegedly been kidnapped by the baby sitter. Her daughter, Casey Anthony, had been missing for a month and the car she was driving - a white 1998 Pontiac Firebird - had been towed. Cindy Anthony found her daughter and the car, but not the child.[8] Anthony continues: "There's something wrong, "I found my daughter's car today and it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car." Her daughter is Casey Anthony, who's being held on a $500,000 bond for child neglect and lying to investigators. Comments made by Cynthia Anthony at her daugher's bond hearing on Tuesday seem to contradict statements made on the 911 calls. She told reporters, ""There was a bag of pizza for 12 days in a car full of maggots." She told television station WFTV she did not contradict herself.[32] The interior of the vehicle had a strong smell of decomposition, and a dog trained to find cadavers indicated the smell was from human remains. Investigators said they found a stain in the trunk and hair that may have come from Caylee. Casey Anthony said that she left the car in the parking lot when it ran out of gas. She and her mother said the bad smell was from a piece of pizza that had been left in the trunk and rotted. Investigators say that Casey Anthony has repeatedly lied to them, about everything from the whereabouts of the child'''s father to her employment history. She gave them an address for the baby sitter who is alleged to have taken the child, but it turned out to be an apartment that hadn'''t been occupied for months.[29] "We want to be respectful to law enforcement, but that only goes so far. We want to see results and we want to see them actually doing a search and not a prosecution. That'''s what we'''ve been saying all along," Baez told Vieira. He said that the woman who said she spoke to Caylee at the airport helped police make a sketch of the woman who was with the child. He said, authorities have not shown him the sketch. "I don'''t know what they'''re doing with it," Baez said. Police have said they'''re treating the disappearance as a homicide. In a court hearing earlier this week, investigators said they found Casey Anthony'''s car abandoned in a parking lot in late June.[29] The child'''s mother, Casey Anthony, is being held in a Florida prison on charges of child endangerment and lying to police. Anthony waited nearly two months to report her daughter missing and lied to police about dropping Caylee off at a babysitter'''s apartment five weeks ago. Anthony told authorities that she dropped Caylee off at a babysitters apartment in early June and has been looking for the woman and her daughter ever since. The apartment she identified had been vacant for four months and the woman she claimed to be the babysitter said she didn'''t know Anthony.[33]
Cindy and Casey Anthony reported the girl missing last Tuesday. Lee Anthony, Casey's older brother, testified that on July15, before police arrived at the family's Lee Vista-area home, he pleaded with his sister to tell him where Caylee was. That's when she broke down in tears and said she hadn't seen her daughter in "31days."[3] Lara Spencer talks to Cindy and George Anthony, Casey's parents, and lawyer Jose Baez. Casey Anthony, an Orlando mother, is being held by police as they search for her missing two-year-old daughter.[34] "I know Casey as a person. I know what she is as a mother," Cindy Anthony said. "I know there is only one or two reasons why Casey would be withholding something about Caylee, and I believe that it's something someone is holding over her, and threatening her in some way." When Casey's brother, Lee Alexander Anthony, took the stand, he said that on the night that his mother called police, he had pleaded with her not to make the call until he had the chance to talk with Casey and get her to confide in him. Lee Anthony said that before authorities were called on July 15, Casey told him and their mother she knew where Caylee was, and would take them to her the next morning. He said he was able to get Casey alone for a short time, and she admitted to him, "I have not seen my daughter in 31 days."[28] Cindy Anthony, Casey's mother, was the first person to take the stand. She was in tears as she saw her daughter for the fist time since her arrest. When asked the date of the last time she saw Caylee, Cindy Anthony said for a long time she was sure it was June 8, but after seeing video of Caylee reading a story book over and over again, it came to her that the video was shot on June 15. Cindy Anthony testified that a woman named "Zani" had been babysitting Caylee for more than a year, but she had never met or talked with the woman because she never came to the house. She also said thinks she knows why her daughter is not telling the whole truth about Caylee's disappearance.[28]
Shortly after Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland entered the courtroom around 1:40 p.m., Cindy Anthony took the stand. She broke down into tears upon seeing her daughter. The two had not seen each other since she was arrested. "This is the first time I have physically seen her," she said, wiping away the tears. Upon questioning from prosecutor Linda Drane-Burdick as to when Cindy first confronted her daughter as to the whereabouts of Caylee, Cindy expressed her doubts. "I asked her (Casey), 'where was Caylee?'" said Cindy.[6]
Judge Stan Strickland set Anthony's bail at $500,000 with the restriction that if the bail is posted, Anthony must wear a GPS tracking device at all times. When handing down the verdict, Strickland voiced his concerns. "I have some problems with the fact that her conduct just hasn't changed," he said. "She hasn't been any help in this investigation a bit." Anthony was arrested on July 16 after police learned that she had not reported her child missing until a month after the toddler vanished and Anthony was, according to police, misleading about both where she worked and where the child was. Three members of Anthony's family -- her mother, Cindy; her father, George; and her brother, Lee -- each testified that, if released on bond, Anthony would be more likely to help assist in the investigation.[15] Anthony did not report her daughter, Caylee, missing for five weeks, detectives said, and the 22-year-old has been called a person of interest in the child's disappearance. A judge set a $500,000 bond for Anthony earlier this week but changed the conditions of her bond release order Wednesday. She's now been ordered to home confinement with an electronic monitoring device and no GPS bracelet.[35]
ORLANDO -- News 13 has learned from a bondsman that the family of Casey and Caylee Anthony are talking with bond agents''about ways to get together the $50,000 cash and $500,000 security needed to''get Casey out of jail so she can help in the search for her 2-year-old daughter.[28] The family of Caylee Anthony is refusing to call Tuesday's bond hearing a setback. They said Wednesday that new efforts are under way to locate the missing 2-year-old girl. Caylee's grandfather, George Anthony told News 13 that to ensure that they properly handle donations to help in finding Caylee, a trust has been set up at all Sun Trust banks.[28]
ORLANDO -- Investigators are following a lead that Caylee Anthony, the Orlando toddler missing since June,''may have been sighted boarding a flight at Orlando International Airport. Cindy Anthony, Caylee's grandmother,''said she got a call Tuesday from a woman who said she saw a girl who looked like Caylee at the airport. The woman told Cindy Anthony she asked the girl what her name was, and that the girl replied, "Caylee Marie Anthony," pronouncing her last name without the "h." like Caylee did. The caller said she was 99 percent sure the girl was Caylee, but investigators have yet to say if there is any validity to the claim.[36] Cindy Anthony said a family who had flown out of Orlando International Airport on July 2 had reported seeing a girl resembling Caylee. The girl apparently said her name was Caylee "Antony" pronouncing it without the "h" like the missing girl does, according to her grandmother. When asked her age, the girl said she was 3.[37]
The tip was even more credible because the person reported that the little girl pronounced her last name the same way Caylee's grandparents say she does, attorney Jose Baez told FOX News. Cindy Anthony said the tip was from a woman who lives in Orlando and was left on her voicemail. The grandmother said she called the woman back and they talked.[37] The grandmother said that the girl, who is almost 3, was spotted in the Orlando airport three weeks ago boarding a flight bound for Atlanta with an older woman. The person who called with the tip said she talked to the girl, who said her name was Caylee Anthony and she was 3 years old. "I want people to look at her picture and picture her as having blond hair right now," Cindy Anthony said of her granddaughter, who is shown in pictures with brown hair. The woman said that the people who said they spotted Caylee called police and then contacted her.[29] "I'm real close to getting in the car and going there myself," Cindy Anthony said. "That's why I've been more emotional today than ever -- because I feel so close to finding her." She said she is fighting the urge to drive to Georgia because that is where the most recent tips say Caylee is. The first reported Caylee sighting since her family last saw her on June 15 is July 2 at Orlando International Airport. A family flying to Atlanta said they saw Caylee. "Her and her family sat with Caylee for 10 to 15 minutes. It's not walking by someone or looking from afar," Cindy Anthony said. She also said the woman told her that the girl they saw was wearing a baseball cap and holding a naked baby doll -- two things she said are characteristic of Caylee. Another person claimed to see Caylee on July 19 at a gas station in Sandy Springs, Ga. "She said it was very apparent that the people were meeting up as a drop point. It was clearly a pick up point," Cindy Anthony said.[26]
"The smell I smelled was that of decomposition," Melich told the judge. He also testified that strands of hair similar to those of the young girl, as well as dirt, were found in the trunk. Cindy Anthony disputed the decomposition testimony Wednesday after her daughter's lawyer revealed the family had received a tip that a child matching Caylee's description had been seen at the Orlando International Airport boarding a flight to Atlanta.[37]
The lawyer for Casey Anthony, mother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, disclosed late Tuesday that the family had received a credible tip that a small child matching Caylee's description was seen boarding a flight to Atlanta at Orlando International Airport.[12] ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- Casey Anthony, the mother of missing 2-year-old Caylee, is scheduled to appear before a judge this afternoon.[38] Caylee's mother, Casey, 22, was arrested Wednesday on charges of child neglect and criminal obstruction for allegedly lying to Orange County sheriff's detectives. Caylee was reported missing last week by her mother, more than a month after Caylee's grandmother said she disappeared. Casey's defense attorney said Casey last saw Caylee when she dropped her off with a babysitter, who detectives have not been able to prove exists, according to the Orlando Sentinel.[10] Caylee Marie Anthony's grandmother would neither confirm nor deny the tip about the fresh concrete received by local WFTV Eyewitness News in Orlando, according to the station. Orange County Sheriff's detectives said they didn't know anything about the reported addition to the property, which they searched last week with cadaver dogs.[1] The new order states that she will be on home confinement with electronic monitoring set up by the Orange County Corrections System, and would only be able to leave with permission. The new electronic monitoring device will track that she is in the home, but will not track her whereabouts. She must also hand over her passport and have a psychological evaluation by two separate doctors within 30 days of her release. The toddler's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, said detectives are following up on a tip supplied by her and her husband, George Anthony. The woman who told Cindy Anthony that she saw Caylee board a plane at Orlando International Airport on July 2 is talking to detectives and working with a sketch artist on Wednesday. "All of this is just validation that the media looking for Caylee versus trying to figure it all out.[39] Caylee is almost 3 years old, MyFOXOrlando.com reported. Cindy Anthony said the woman who gave her the tip was to meet with Orange County Sheriff's detectives to produce a composite sketch of the woman seen with the girl. The Associated Press contributed to this report.[37]
Last week, sheriff's investigators used cadaver-sniffing dogs and dug through Cindy Anthony's backyard to look for Caylee. Anthony didn't call authorities immediately, she said, because she was conducting her own investigation, according to the charging affidavit. The apartment where she allegedly dropped off the girl hadn't been occupied in months and Anthony gave detectives a bogus employer, manager's name and work telephone number, according to the affidavit. Sheriff's detectives say they have few new leads. Authorities are looking into the family's claims that they received a mysterious call from the little girl last Tuesday.[20] I have tried to contact her." Cindy Anthony has since discounted her comments in the 911 call, claiming that the smell could easily have been garbage in the car. Casey told authorities that Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez, the toddler's babysitter, has the girl, but police have been unable to track down Gonzalez or even determine whether or not she exists. While Anthony is currently being held on three relatively small charges, including child neglect and obstructing an investigation, her bond was set unusually high as prosecutors said that the case was turning into "what is looking to be a homicide investigation."[15] Casey Anthony has been charged with child endangerment, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation, but wants to be released on bond. Police say the 22-year-old has lied to them. Casey Anthony's family says she was a good mother and never hurt Caylee.[40] Casey Anthony has been charged with child endangerment, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Police also say the 22-year-old has lied to them. Tuesday a judge set bond at 500-thousand dollars saying he's concerned that evidence presented in court possibly implicates Casey in her daughter's death.[41]
Casey Anthony has been in jail for eight days on charges of child neglect. She claimed she knew her child was missing for 30 days, but wanted to conduct her own investigation to spare her parents the heartbreak of knowing their granddaughter is missing. She will remain in jail because her family is unable to pay the $500,000. Her lawyer is petitioning for the courts to lower the bond amount.[31] ORLANDO, Fla. -- The family of Casey Anthony is working to come up with a percentage of her bond, set at $500,000, to get the mother of the missing 2-year-old out of jail.[39]
MIAMI (AP) - A woman in Miami is being held on $500,000 bond as police try to figure out what happened to her 2-year-old daughter. The mother of Casey Anthony called 911 last week saying that the car her daughter was driving smelled as if a dead body had been inside.[42]
More calls are planned for today. Anthony had spent her eighth day in jail Wednesday on child-neglect and other charges related to the disappearance. Christina Baez, speaking on behalf of her father, defense attorney Jose Baez, said the Anthonys want to bond their 22-year-old daughter out of jail as soon as possible, but the bail amount is "outrageous." Anthony was arrested July 16 after allegedly telling investigators a series of lies about her daughter's disappearance. A sheriff's investigator said in court Tuesday that based on a smell and other evidence in Anthony's car, it's possible Caylee is dead and her mother is involved.[27] Prosecutors said the case is beginning to look like a homicide. Anthony's attorney said there is circumstantial evidence of a possible killing, but not enough to give prosecutors the confidence to charge her with homicide, kidnapping or any similar offense. Detectives revealed that Anthony had become more of a focus of their investigation into her daughter Caylee's disappearance after they found evidence of human decomposition in the trunk of a car she drove. Detective Yuri Melich testified that strands of hair similar to those of Caylee Marie Anthony as well as dirt were found in the trunk of a car used by her mother.[11] An investigator testified that Anthony's car smelled of decomposition when it was found. In their closing arguments prosecutors said that their case against Casey Anthony is looking more and more like a homicide investigation. They also revealed evidence they said that makes them believe 'the child is no longer alive'.[6] Casey Anthony, 22, has so far been held on three smaller charges, including child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing an investigation, but prosecutors said the case was beginning to look like a homicide. Sheriff's deputies said they still hoped to find the girl alive.[43]
Cindy Anthony and her husband, George Anthony, have maintained throughout the investigation that their focus is only on finding Caylee -- not the arrest of their daughter, Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony.[26] During the second emergency call, Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, took the phone from Cindy. "My daughter's been missing for the last 31 days," she told the dispatcher.[15]
The calls were placed by Cindy Anthony, Caylee's grandmother, weeks after the girl went missing. Cindy Anthony tells the 911 dispatcher that she wants her daughter arrested for a possible missing child.[44] Sentinel Staff Writers 6:18 PM EDT, July 24, 2008 Breaking news: Two 911 calls from Caylee Marie Anthony's grandmother were released this evening. In the first call on July 15, Cindy Anthony asks authorities to arrest her daughter, Casey. In a later call that day, a crying Cindy Anthony says someone has taken her granddaughter.[27] There's nothing but love." The elder Anthony also said that her daughter has not committed a crime but admitted that Casey had lied to her in the past and "has had trouble keeping jobs." "Casey's lied to me in the past and when she's lied she's always told me the truth," Cindy Anthony said. "We've gotten to the bottom of the truth when I talk to her and spend time with her." In reference to the long period of time between Caylee's disappearance and police involvement, Mrs. Anthony said she had no reason to believe that anything bad had happened to her granddaughter until last week because she'd "spoken to Casey on a daily basis."[21] Anthony was denied bail at a hearing last week. Cindy Anthony said her daughter "has her reasons why she just can't blurt out the whole story." "Casey has been trying to tell the police in her own way what she can tell them and the only unfortunate thing is, you know, they want a clear picture," Cindy Anthony told FOX News on Monday.[11]
Bond hearing for Casey Anthony, 22, was arrested last week after reporting the disappearance of her daughter Caylee Marie Anthony.[20] George Anthony said the trust money would be used strictly for flyers and billboards and that none of it will be used for Casey Anthony's bond. The Anthony family wanted to make it clear that, although they still don't know where they will find the $50,000 needed to get Casey out of jail, no donations will be taken from the efforts to find Caylee.[28] After hearing about the discovery of samples of hair that had length and color similar to Caylee's in the trunk of a car owned by the Anthony family that was last driven by Casey, Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland set Casey's bond at $500,000 Tuesday.[43] Casey Anthony could walk out of jail Wednesday. Judge Stan Strickland set bond at $500,000 for Anthony after hearing testimony from officers that a smell in her vehicle was decomposition and not trash and a K-9 dog alerted to human decomposition in her trunk.[30] After two and half hours of testimony, Judge Strickland granted Casey Anthony bond, which is set at $500,000.[6]
The child's mother, 22-year-old Casey Anthony, is considered a "person of interest" in the disappearance and is currently jailed, trying to raise a $500,000 bond.[37]
Cpl. Yury Melich, with Orange County Child Abuse Missing Person's Unit, was asked about the search of a car used by Casey Anthony, which was later confiscated for analysis.[6] Officer Yuri Mellich of the Orange Co., Fla., Sheriff's Missing Persons Unit, called Anthony a "person of interest" after revealing in testimony that samples of hair of similar length and color to Caylee's were found in the trunk of a car owned by the Anthony family and last driven by Casey. Plus, a police dog trained to seek out the decomposition of human bodies also alerted its handler to the car trunk.[15]
Investigators said similar human decomposition smells found in a yard and a car during a search for a missing Orlando girl indicate the source may have been moved. Last week, cadaver dogs searched the Orange County back yard of Cindy and George Anthony for signs of their missing granddaughter, who was not reported missing for five weeks.[35] ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35, Orlando) -- A new tip claiming to have seen little Caylee Anthony at Orlando International Airport boarding a flight to Atlanta is stirring up lots of speculation. It is this tip that is adding to the tension between all the people trying to find the two year old who has been missing for over a month. Detectives said that it was important, in order for them to do their job, to have been given this tip first, before it was broadcast through the national media. "In the office we didn't know anything about this until mentioned on national TV on FOX, "said Orange County Deputy Sheriffs spokesperson Carlos Padilla.[45] This undated photo released by the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Fla. on Friday, July 18, 2008, shows Caylee Marie Anthony, 2, who has been missing more than a month.[5]
The Orange County Sheriff's Office gave new information on their search for 2-year-old Caylee Anthony Friday morning and her grandfather gave hi.[45]
The hearing lasted for about three hours Tuesday afternoon, as Casey Anthony's parents and brother took the stand, along with investigators from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.[28] Casey Anthony was arrested Wednesday on several charges including child neglect and filing false information. She is being held without bail at the Orange County Jail. She is scheduled to be in court this afternoon on a bond hearing.[22]
Officials close to the case say that now the ball is in Casey's court as to what happens next. "It's up to her and her attorney as to whether they are going to talk to law enforcement," said Chief Ron Stucker, Orange County Sheriffs Office. "That is their decision." Investigators still maintain that Casey and her attorney Jose Baez have not contacted them with any crucial information. They aren't sure if Casey's getting out of jail could help in their investigation as far as traveling with deputies to check out any leads she may remember. From the bench, Judge Strickland said Tuesday he doesn't see cooperation happening between Casey and investigators.[12] Wednesday night Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, appeared on CNN's Nancy Grace show. He accused an Orange County deputy of lying about their communications.[9] CNN's Nancy Grace grilled Casey Anthony's attorney Jose Baez and asked why his client did not report her daughter missing and why she lied to police. "Don't you think your client should know the last time she was with her own daughter?" Grace asked.[35] JOSE BAEZ, ATTORNEY FOR CASEY ANTHONY: I'd like to make it clear that my client, Casey Anthony, at no time refused to speak with law enforcement. A lot has been misreported that she's not cooperating and that I am in some way standing in her way. I'd like to bring everybody -- direct everybody's attention to the arrest report, which clearly states that the police were called out on the 15th of this month and she spoke with them immediately on that day. Then on the following day, practically the entire day she spent with law enforcement. It's only upon being arrested and my being retained that she invoked her right to counsel, as I think anyone would do in this country.[46]
The donor says the bulk of the money will go to the person who makes possible the safe return of Caylee. Casey Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, said he didn't ask for or know about the new stipulations in her release.[39] "My granddaughter is the one who is in danger. She is not the one with us." Anthony's attorney, Jose Baez, said investigators have made the process more difficult by taking Casey into custody when they did. "My client told me that she does not know where Caylee is," Anthony family attorney Jose Baez said.[16]
Padilla said Anthony's friends have told investigators the woman has a habit of lying. Anthony did not report the missing child to friends or family during the weeks since she disappeared, claiming the toddler was at Disney World, Universal Studios, or at the beach with her "nanny." Once Anthony did report the child missing, at her own mother's request, investigators were unable to uncover some of the most basic facts of her life and the case. Police say Anthony lied about her current employment and led investigators to what she claimed was her babysitter's apartment -- one that had not been lived in for five months. According to her attorney, Anthony suspects that the babysitter, whom Anthony named as Zenaida Gonzalez, has kidnapped her child, and urged police to broaden its search to include several cities including Miami, Charlotte and New York City.[23] Anthony's attorney said that there was circumstantial evidence of a possible murder, but the evidence was not enough for Casey Anthony to be charged with homicide or kidnapping. Strickland said he was concerned about the fact that Anthony's 'conduct just hasn't changed,' and she hadn't been of help at all during the investigation. Anthony was arrested on July 16 after police realized that she had not reported her child as missing until a month after the disappearance.[43]
Anthony then gives the name of the nanny believed to have the child. The dispatcher asks Casey Anthony why she had waited so long to report that the girl was missing. The mother says "I've been looking for her (the baby sitter) and have gone through other resources to try to find her, which was stupid."[44] Casey Anthony, an Orlando mother, is being held by police as they search for her missing two-year-old daughter.[34] Casey Anthony's Pontiac was towed after being parked for days at an Orlando check-cashing business. Anthony's mother testified in court Tuesday that her daughter and granddaughter hadn't been home in weeks.[40]

The car driven by the mother of missing Florida two-year-old Caylee Anthony smelled "like there's been a dead body" in it, according a 911 call made by the child's grandmother last week. [15] '''Based on two more tips yesterday, two more sighting of Caylee in Georgia as late as two nights ago, makes me very hopeful. It looks like they'''re moving more northern into Georgia, towards the mountains,''' Cindy tells Meredith Vieira of the Today show. A woman told police that she saw and talked to Caylee at an Orlando airport three weeks ago. She said the toddler was boarding a flight to Atlanta with an older woman. The woman said she talked to the girl and the girl said her name was Caylee Anthony.[33] The Sheriff's Office has received hundreds of tips in the case, including a reported sighting of Caylee at Orlando International Airport, said Deputy Carlos Padilla, a sheriff's spokesman. Baez said the Anthony family received a tip from a woman who claimed she met a girl who identified herself as Caylee at the airport on July 2.[8]
Melich said the Sheriff's Office received a tip from a hairdresser who said Caylee had bruises and marks on her, as well as a photo from another witness that showed a cut under Caylee's eye. Melich also said a witness came forward who said he had heard Caylee in the background of an extensive phone call he had with Casey Anthony on June 24 or 25.[28] The lead investigator, Detective Cpl. Yuri Melich, told prosecutor Linda Drane-Burdick that deputies interviewed someone who claimed to have heard Caylee in the background of a phone call with Casey Anthony on June24 or 25.[3] Police said the toddler's mother failed to report the disappearance for more than a month. Casey Anthony reportedly told detective she didn't call authorities immediately because she was conducting her own investigation. ___ ___, The Associated Press.[41] The neighbor told investigators that Casey had asked to borrow a shovel. "That prompted us to start looking at the residence on Hope Spring," said Melich. Authorities said Casey has repeatedly lied to investigators and showed little emotion during interviews about her daughter's whereabouts. Anthony didn't call authorities immediately, she said, because she was conducting her own investigation, according to the charging affidavit.[6]
With the media looking for Caylee and encouraging everybody to continue to look at that face, you know, that's what figure it all out," Cindy Anthony said. Earlier, Cindy Anthony said she believes her daughter is being held in jail because authorities are trying to "crack her" and make her "spill her beans." She said the investigation is not all about finding a dead Caylee, but it's about finding her alive. The Anthonys have set up a trust find through SunTrust bank for their missing granddaughter.[39] I found my daughter's car today and it smells like there has been a dead body in the car." She said her daughter just admitted that her granddaughter has been missing for a month. Throughout the investigation, Cindy Anthony has stood by her daughter, claiming the smell from her daughter's car was the smell of rotting pizza.[31] I found my daughter's car today, it smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car." Cindy Anthony then hands the phone to her daughter, who admits the girl has been missing for 31 days.[44] I'd like to speak to an officer. Another call featured the first words heard from the mother of the missing girl. She said she knows who has her daughter. "I called a little bit ago to the deputy sheriff's and I've found out that my granddaughter has been taken -- she has been missing for a month," Cindy Anthony told a 911 operator. "Her mother had finally admitted that she had been missing."[47]
The dispatcher probes for more information after Anthony says the 3-year-old has been missing for three weeks. When asked by the dispatcher with the daughter needed to be arrested Cindy pauses then says she stole her car and her money. Cindy Anthony continues to ask for an officer to be sent to her house. Anthony also tells the dispatcher that her daughter has been missing for a month, but was found.[44]
No body was uncovered. Detectives claim that the small amount of information Anthony has given to them regarding Caylee's disappearance has proven to be untrue. Melich said that Anthony has also refused to say anything about her child's father, whom Anthony claims is dead. Remaining at her daughter's side, Cindy Anthony claims her daughter is "a good mom." "Without a doubt, she is a great mom," Cindy Anthony testified. "You can see it in her eyes. You can see it when they're together.[21] The caller claimed to have seen Caylee board the flight with an older woman. When she talked to the woman and child, the youngster apparently said her name was Caylee "Antony," pronouncing it without the "h" the way Cindy Anthony says her granddaughter does. When asked her age, the little girl said she was 3; Caylee is almost 3 years old.[37] Now they are seriously concerned. Instead it was Cindy Anthony, the grandmother of the little girl, who got the tip in her voicemail. The Anthony's have set up a website urging people to call them, but they are receiving more calls than maybe they can handle. "This lady had tried for a couple days to get through to the tip line and she couldn't," said Anthony. "So she called my home line." The other problem authorities say is that they are not sure when this call came in. Cindy Anthony says it was sometime between when she left for the bond hearing at about 11:30 in the morning and the time she returned home about 8:30 that night. Authorities say that when someone calls the tip line the call is logged and documented, they are also able to tell where the call is coming from and create a timeline. The Anthony's have their own frustrations with that tip line after being told by this tipster that she had tried to get through on the tip line for several days but had no luck, it was only then that she tried Cindy Anthony's personal phone.[45] "I just heard some fairly compelling evidence as to a body decomposing, and truth be known, it could only be one," said Strickland, who presided over the nearly three-hour bond hearing. Outside the courtroom, Casey's mother, Cindy Anthony, said she thinks her granddaughter is still alive.[3]
At the bond hearing on Tuesday, Judge Stan Strickland initially ruled that Casey Anthony would be required to wear a GPS monitoring device if released.[39] The odor of "decomposition" was also detected in the vehicle, he told the judge presiding over Casey Anthony's bond hearing Tuesday afternoon.[11]
Local bail bondsman John Van Achen, the same bondsman who bonded astronaut Lisa Nowak out of jail, said Casey Anthony's family has been calling local bondsmen to ask questions. "They just typically called and asked what the process was as far as the 10 percent and the amount of collateral," Van Achen said. To get Casey Anthony out of jail, her family will have to come up with 10 percent of her $500,000 bond and provide collateral for the remaining $450,000.[39] If the Anthony family comes up with the bond money, Casey Anthony will not be released right away. She will have to pass a psychological examination to prove she is not a danger to herself or others in addition to wearing an ankle monitor and paying the $12 per day it costs to fund it. Casey Anthony is charged with child neglect and a few misdemeanors -- charges that would normally produce a bond of about $7,500, Local 6's Tony Pipitone reported.[16] Defense attorney Jose Baez requested bond around $10,000. He said Anthony's family can't pay a high bond and she has the right to freedom while facing lesser charges. "This is not a capital case, and if it were they certainly would file it, if they had evidence to," Baez said. "There is circumstantial evidence of a possible homicide, I will give them that. Circumstantial evidence has not made them confident enough to charge her with any specific homicide or kidnapping, or any capital offense." Anthony's parents became concerned after her car was towed from a check-cashing business where it had been parked for days. She and the child lived with her parents, and she told them she worked as an event planner at an area theme park.[19] The family'''s attorney, Jose Baez, who appeared on TODAY with Cindy Anthony, said that police are not doing enough to find the child.[29] "We want to find Caylee," Anthony family attorney Jose Baez said. "I have had in-depth and long conversations with my client and she has asked to help cooperate. She wants to cooperate." Baez would not say what it is that he learned that leads him to believe that a release could help lead to Caylee's return, Local 6's Tony Pipitone reported.[16]
The grandfather of Caylee Marie Anthony has asked hundreds of thousands of people to help find the missing child, using an automatic telephone system that dialed homes in five Central Florida counties. "Please help my family and me bring her home for her third birthday," George Anthony said in the recording played in Orange, Seminole, Lake, Osceola and Volusia counties.[27] Sentinel Staff Writer 11:13 AM EDT, July 22, 2008 Lee Anthony is grateful for the outpouring of support his family has seen since his 2-year-old niece was reported missing last week. Anthony was stationed outside of the Publix supermarket at Lake Underhill Road and Chickasaw Trail this morning along with handful of friends and supporters when a mobile billboard from the Kid Finders Foundation arrived from West Palm Beach around 10 a.m. The 16-foot long trailer has a giant photo of missing Caylee Marie Anthony and information on how to help locate her.[22]
In the recording, broadcast Wednesday and arranged by the Never Lose Hope Foundation, George Anthony tells listeners that the reward for information leading to Caylee's whereabouts is now $225,000 a $100,000 increase thanks to local businessman Peter Benevides, according to MyFOX Orlando. He describes the little girl as being 3 feet tall with big, hazel eyes and brown hair. "She could be anywhere," he says. "Please help me and my family bring her home for her third birthday."[1]
Volunteers in the Orlando, Fla., are planned to canvas neighborhoods, distributing 50,000 fliers, MyFOXOrlando.com reports. "People don't know that Caylee's missing, and they may have been the one to see her," Cindy Anthony told FOX News.[18] The nationally televised appearance comes the day after the sheriff's office released the 911 calls made by Cindy Anthony on the evening of July 15 - the day she reported Caylee missing.[24] "Caylee, C-A-Y-L-E-E, Anthony," Cindy Anthony said. "How long has she been missing for?" the 911 operator asked. "I have not seen her since June 7," Cindy Anthony said.[47]
Some investigators are not so optimistic. Cindy Anthony said she has a new reason to be optimistic her granddaughter Caylee is still alive and hopes the woman and her son can work with a sketch artist to produce a picture of the woman who has Caylee. Anthony said she's spoken with the tipster, who she said gave her her name, four times.[14] Casey and Caylee were living with George and Cindy Anthony, reportedly until the time the toddler vanished.[1]
Cindy Anthony said the family sat across from Caylee, who was with two people. "The person that saw her in the restaurant described how she eats to me. I have seen that child eat since the say she was born.[26]
Cindy Anthony said her daughter should be released and is a good mother. Anthony sat quietly in the Orange County courtroom as Circuit Judge Stan Strickland heard arguments concerning her release.[30] The investigation includes processing other items found in Anthony's car. "Because they found hair samples in the trunk of the car that are similar in color and length to that of Caylee and they also found a stain in the trunk that came up under black light that is questionable," Orange County Detective Yuri Melich said. "They also found some dirt inside the car that needs to be processed." Detectives said they don't have enough evidence to file additional charges against Anthony but it could become a potential homicide investigation.[35] ORANGE COUNTY, FL -- Two 911 calls made by the grandmother of Caylee Anthony raises even more questions about the missing 2-year-old.[32] Orange County, Florida officials have released the 911 tapes from two phone calls placed about missing toddler Caylee Marie Anthony on July 14th.[44]
Orange County investigators released the calls made on July 15, revealing a frantic, crying Cynthia Anthony. On the first call, she tells the 911 dispatcher, "I have someone here that needs to be arrested in my home and I have a possibly missing child.[32]
ORANGE COUNTY, FL -- A tip received by an Orlando television station says a new concrete slab was poured behind the home of Casey Anthony's parents over the July 4th weekend.[9] A new court order on Wednesday changed the conditions of Casey Anthony's release from the Orange County Jail, according to a jail spokesperson.[39]
Caylee's mother, 22-year-old Casey, remains in the Orange County Jail Thursday. Her parents are still trying to come up with 10 percent of the $500,000 bond required for her release. Casey will be required to surrender her passport if she has one and will be fitted with a GPS programming device. The device is the exact same device that Lisa Nowak, the NASA astronaut who attempted to kidnap her rival, was required to wear. The GPS band is handled by a private company called Court Program Inc. A representative from the company said the band has been prepared for Casey; they are just waiting for her bond to be paid. Two different bond companies are talking with Casey's parents to help release her from jail.[13] Tuesday a judge set bond for the missing 2-year-old's mother at $500,000. At first, the judge said Casey would have to wear''a GPS monitor if she is released.'' He's modified the conditions to include home confinement and electronic monitoring.[28]
At 1:30 p.m., Circuit Judge Stan Strickland will determine if Casey will be able to bond out of jail. Her defense attorney, Jose Baez, says if she is released, she will better be able to help find her daughter.[38] ORLANDO -- Casey Anthony's attorney tried to speak in defense of his client on national television Wednesday night. Attorney Jose Baez faced some tough questions from CNN's Nancy Grace about why his client has not been more forthcoming with information.[48] The attorney is representing Caylee's mother, Casey Anthony, who has been in jail since July 16.[24]
"We can tell each other things that we wouldn't feel comfortable telling even the rest of the family." Police have not talked to Anthony since she was arrested on Wednesday, but her mother stated in the hearing that Casey would not talk to police about Caylee because she was "afraid."[15] The family would neither confirm nor deny the tip. If true, that would be days before police were contacted by the family about the disappearance of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony, and almost a month after her mother said she last saw her daughter.[9]
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Detectives worked Wednesday to determine the credibility of a tip that missing child Caylee Anthony, 2, was seen boarding a flight to Atlanta.[14] ORLANDO, Fla. -- Authorities are expected to release the initial call to 911 from the grandmother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony on Friday.[31] Two 911 calls made by the grandmother of Caylee Anthony raises even more questions about the missing 2-year-old.[32] VAN SUSTEREN: Joining us live is Cynthia Anthony, grandmother of missing 2-year-old Caylee Anthony.[46]
Prosecutors say the case of missing 2-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony of Orlando is beginning to look like a homicide.[10] ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The mother of a missing 2-year-old is a person of interest in a case that is beginning to look like a homicide, prosecutors said Tuesday. Sheriff's deputies said they still hope to find the girl alive.[19] ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A sheriff's detective says a car driven by the mother of a missing 2-year-old Florida girl smelled of decomposition when investigators recovered it.[40] ORLANDO, Fla. -- A tip that a missing 2-year-old Orlando girl is alive and was spotted getting on an airplane will be checked by investigators in a case that has gained national attention.[30]
ORLANDO, Fla. -- As the search for Caylee Anthony entered its second week, investigators continue to wade through several tips.[26]
The source tells Eyewitness News that special cadaver dogs will have to be called in to sniff the slab. The family says they have told deputies about all the changes they've made to their house recently and that investigators cleared the home. Investigators already searched the back yard at the home of Casey Anthony's parents last Friday, combing through the yard, digging through bushes and bringing in dogs, but this tip could be a potentially major development.[49] Casey Anthony said the baby sitter'''s name is Zenaida Fernandez Gonzalez, but investigators have not been able to locate anyone by that name who meets the description the mother provided.[29] Anthony also said investigators asked what kind of mother Casey is on Monday night. "It's the first time they asked me questions of, did I ever see bruises or anything like that," Anthony said.[30]
"I can't concede that. No one has ever talked to this person besides Casey," said Melich. In their closing arguments, prosecutors admitted that their case against Casey Anthony is looking more and more like a homicide investigation.[6] Casey Anthony remains in jail on $500,00 bond, and is considered a person of interest in the case.[44]
"Anyone that would donate to the Find Caylee Anthony Fund for my granddaughter, none of that is going to be used towards (Casey's bond.)[28]
The Pontiac was towed after being parked for days at an Orlando check-cashing business. 14:57:15sot: in my experience, the smell I smelled was that of decomposition.cpl yuri melich The sheriff's detective also said it appeared that a stain, some dirt and 2-year-old Caylee Anthony's hair were in the trunk. 14:58:40SOT: THEY FOUND HAIR SAMPLES THAT WERE SIMILAR IN LENGTH in color of that of caylee. They also found a stain that came up under blacklight. and some dirt that needs to be processed.[41] Sheriff's deputies said Anthony's car smelled of decomposition, and a cadaver-trained German shepherd noted a smell of human remains in the car and her yard. They said they found a stain, dirt and what seemed to be Caylee's hair in Anthony's trunk.[19]
"For stealing an auto and stealing money," Cindy Anthony said. "I already spoke to someone who said they would patch me through to the Orlando Sheriff's Department and have a deputy here. I was in the car and I was going to drive her to the police station, and no one is open. They said they would bring a deputy to my home when I got home to call them." "So, she stole your vehicle?" the 911 operator said.[47] ORLANDO, Fla. -- The first call featured Cindy Anthony saying she wants her daughter arrested for stealing a car and money.[47]
Sobbing Cindy Anthony once again calls 911 dispatch, saying that the 3-year-old had been kidnapped, and has been missing for 31 days. Anthony says her daughter said the baby-sitter stole the baby.[44] "Your daughter admitted that the baby is where?" the 911 operator asked. "She said she took her a month ago and my daughter has been looking for her," Cindy Anthony said. "I told you my daughter has been missing for a month and I just found her today.[47] A cadaver-trained dog detected the odor of human remains. Cindy Anthony says her daughter had been missing a month, and told her that the child was missing as well.[42]
The child's grandmother Cindy Anthony confirmed that the lead surfaced late Tuesday. She said the tip was from a woman who lives in Orlando and was left on her voicemail. Cindy Anthony said she called the woman back and they talked.[12] Cindy Anthony said the woman who provided the tip was supposed to be meeting with detectives to help create a composite sketch of the woman who was with the girl at the airport.[36]
Cindy Anthony said Wednesday that 14 billboards across Florida, including two in Orlando, will show a picture of the missing girl.[37]
"There's no clear picture. Casey has her reasons why she just can't blurt out the whole story, so she's been honest with them for what she can be honest with." Earlier, Cindy Anthony had told NBC's "Today" Show Monday that Casey Anthony knows who has the toddler and should be released from jail so she can assist with the search.[18] Asked whether Casey would be under constant supervision upon release, Cindy responded, "Casey won't have access to a car. I'm not going to handcuff her anywhere. I will provide someone with her at all times," said Cindy Anthony. "I will have someone 'Casey-sit' her, because she's not a baby."[6] "Casey, we love you!" yelled Cindy Anthony as the courtroom cleared. Her daughter nodded and sobbed before being led away in chains.[19]
Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, said she spoke to the tipster. She calls it the best lead they've gotten to date.[14] Cindy Anthony also said Caylee asked about playing with the tipster's dog while waiting to board the plane.[14]
Caylee's grandparents, Cindy and George Anthony are trying new ways to bring in tips in the case.[35] Although there are no new leads in the case, law enforcement officials are investigating claims that Anthony received "a mysterious call" from Caylee last Tuesday.[21] Anyone looking to help or donate is asked to call 877-ONE-LOST. "We appreciate it so much and it's just another arena, another vehicle, to be able to get that information out there if people don't already know about the story or at least get the information out there about the Web site, which is still brand new," Caylee's uncle Lee Anthony said.[50]
The calls offer a glimpse into the panic that beset the Anthony family the night Caylee Marie was reported missing.[24] DAYTONA BEACH -- A benefit is planned to raise money for the search for Caylee Anthony, the Orlando toddler who has been missing since June.[51] Two-year-old Caylee Anthony has been missing since early June, but authorities were not notified until last week.[50] The grandmother of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony says the 2-year-old has been spotted in Georgia as recently as Tuesday night.[33] "We have deputies on the way to you for that but know your 3-year-old is missing -- Caylee Anthony," the 911 operator said.[47]
An investigator testified that Anthony's car smelled of decomposition when it was found. Anthony was arrested last week after reporting her daughter missing.[25] Anthony is charged with child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. Authorities say she did not report the girl missing until last week, and only then at her own mother's insistence.[19] Casey Anthony has been charged with child endangerment, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation -- a third-degree felony, third-degree misdemeanor and second degree misdemeanor.[28]
Casey Anthony wants to be freed from jail so she can help find her daughter.[16] The dogs also hit on the same smell in the trunk of the car the Casey Anthony had been driving, police said.[35] On Thursday, WFTV received a tip that a new concrete slab was poured behind the home of Casey Anthony's parents over the July 4th weekend.[32] A separate tip was discounted by authorities Thursday. Other media outlets reported Thursday that a new concrete slab has been poured in the Anthonys' back yard. Investigators searched the Anthonys' back yard last week and said it has been cleared with no plans to revisit it at this time.[26] Hopefully, police take it seriously," attorney Jose Baez said. Another sighting was reported in Atlanta. If the initial sighting is legit, investigators said they are confident that at least some of it would have been captured by the many airport surveillance cameras stationed in airside terminals. They hoped the tipster would be able to provide specific information on the time and place she thought she saw Caylee. Last year, police said one such camera caught astronaut Lisa Nowak wearing a disguise waiting to confront a romantic rival. Investigators also said that they will not release a composite sketch of a woman the tipster thought she saw with Caylee until they are convinced the information is credible.[26] An attorney for the family said two people have reported seeing Caylee in the last month. One tipster said the toddler was seen at Orlando International Airport heading to an Atlanta-bound flight with a blond-haired woman in her 40s. "The investigators did meet with her and were able to come up with a sketch together.[26]
Wednesday night, investigators spoke with a woman who believes she recently spoke with Caylee at Orlando International Airport. The woman said she spotted the girl boarding a flight to Atlanta and even talked with the girl. Detectives created a composite sketch but said they would not release it until they firmly believe the tip is credible.[35]

Orange County Sheriff's deputy Carlos Padilla said Baez hasn't returned detectives' calls to set up a meeting. "The key lies in the mother, and we would hope the lawyer would allow the detectives to speak to her in his presence to find out exactly where this child is," Padilla said. "This lawyer has taken the time to take this to the media, but he's not yet returned the phone calls to discuss this." Padilla urged the person who might have the girl but is worried about being prosecuted to drop her off at a hospital or law enforcement office. [25] "Briefly, just before I came into the Child Abuse Division, I was a homicide detective for two years with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, and in my experience, the smell that I smelled in that car was the smell of decomposition," Melich said.[28] At the bond hearing, Orange County Sheriff's Detective Yuri Melich said the car smelled of decomposition when investigators recovered it.[32]
A sheriff's detective testified that a car driven by the Anthony smelled of decomposition when investigators recovered it.[4]

Melich elaborated on a recent search conducted at the Anthony's Orlando home using cadaver-sniffing dogs. He said the search was prompted by a tip from a neighbor who stated that sometime in mid to late June, Casey was witnessed backing her car up to the garage. [6] Casey Anthony's Pontiac was towed after being parked for days at an Orlando check-cashing business.[4] "I know who has her," Casey Anthony said. "I tried to contact her and I actually received a phone call today from a number that is no longer in service.[47] "Who is that, the baby sitter?" the 911 operator asked. "She's been my nanny for about a year and a half or two years," Casey Anthony said.[47] "What vehicle was stolen?" the 911 operator asked. "It's a 1998 Pontiac," Casey Anthony said.[47]
In order to post Casey Anthony's bail, her family will likely have to turn to a bail bondsman.[39]
