Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Boston Field Division, announced Thursday that Takek Mehanna, 27, of Sudbury, and Ahmad Abousamra, age 28, who currently lives in Syria, were charged in a 10-count indictment with providing and conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, conspiracy to provide false information to law enforcement and a number of separate counts of false statements to law enforcement. The indictment alleges that, beginning in or about 2001 and continuing until in or about the date of the return of the indictment, Mehanna and Abousamra conspired with each other, and others, to provide material support to terrorists knowing that their support would be used in preparation for and carrying out a conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim, or injure persons or damage property in a foreign country and extraterritorial homicide of a U.S. national. It is further alleged that between 2002 and the spring of 2007, Mehanna and Abousamra provided or attempted to provide such support, the indictment said.

Federal prosecutors in Boston also released two undated photographs of a Mehanna smiling at Ground Zero in New York City with friends, as well as excerpts of conversations he allegedly had with friends online in which he expressd his admiration for Al Qaeda, the 19 hijackers who participated in the 9/11 attacks, and Osama bin Laden. "I look to him. as being my real father, in a sense," he allegedly wrote in an online chat on April 28, 2006.
[2] BOSTON, Nov 5 (Reuters) - U.S. federal prosecutors have charged two men with providing material support to terrorists and other crimes, including conspiracy to kill in a foreign country and lying to law enforcement officers.

If convicted of conspiracy to kill in a foreign country, Mehanna and Abousamra each face up to life imprisonment, to be followed by supervised release for any term of years up to life. Two of the false statement counts alleged against Mehanna and one alleged against Abousamra concern false statements in connection with a terrorism investigation; on those counts, the defendants faces a maximum of eight years imprisonment, to be followed by three years supervised release and a $250,000 fine on each count.
[1] Mehanna was previously indicted in January 2009 for making false statements to members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force of the FBI in connection with a terrorism investigation. On Oct. 21, 2009, he was arrested on a criminal complaint that alleged conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists and is being detained pending a hearing in U.S. District Court in Boston, on Nov. 12, 2009.

[3] Mehanna was arrested Oct. 21 on a charge of conspiring to provide material support to terrorists. He's accused to plotting to gun down mall shoppers and execute two members of the executive branch. All while spouting jihad gibberish while living with his folks in a quaint neighborhood in tony Sudbury. It's a fuzzy photo, but you get the picture. According to the indictment, between 2001 and the date of the return of the indictment, Mehanna and Abousamra conspired to kill in a foreign country. [1] Two weeks after a Sudbury man was arrested in an alleged terror plot to kill Americans in the U.S. and overseas, federal authorities announced today an indictment of him and a former Mansfield man they say fled to Syria.
[2] BOSTON — A Massachusetts man has been indicted on new charges in an alleged terror plot to kill two prominent U.S. politicians and shoot people at American shopping malls.
[4] The feds released this photo today showing, they say, Sudbury terror suspect Tarek Mehanna (far right) joking it up at Ground Zero long after the attacks. Mehanna, 27, is being held without bail and a federal grand jury today indicted him on new and old charges.
[5] Abousamra was named, but not charged, in October's filing. The suspects' plans to carry out terror attacks were reportedly thwarted when they were unable to obtain automatic weapons. Mehanna, trained as a pharmacist, lived with his parents in a leafy town in Boston's suburbs. He is in federal custody awaiting a probable cause hearing on Nov. 12.
[3] Ahmad Abousamra, 28, thought to be a U.S. citizen now living in Syria, was also charged in Wednesday's 10-count indictment.
