It was announced by 2K studios that 2K Marin, 2K Australia and 2K Boston would be working on the PS3 version of Bioshock. Bioshock once an Xbox 360 exclusive was announced to be coming to the PS3 later this year. It was also announced an outside studio is helping them with bringing Bioshock to the PS3. It's not all that surprising that they would do this considering 2K Boston, Marin and Australia have little to no experience developing on the PS3. According to Monster and Critics 2K Games announced today the secret studio they have decided to partner up with is no other than Digital Extremes. [1] Washington (ChattahBox) - 2K Games, the publisher of Bioshock, has revealed that they have four different developers working on the PS3 version of the game. To start off with, they have 2K Boston and 2K Australia, who developed the Xbox 360 and PC version of the game, working on the PS3 version. Beyond those two though, they also have 2K Marin, made up of devs from the original Bioshock teams, as well as Digital Extremes working on the PS3 port.[2]
Dark Sector Dev Assisting 2K On PS3 BioShock Publisher 2K Games has announced that Dark Sector developer Digital Extremes is the 'mystery' fourth developer chosen to help optimize the forthcoming PlayStation 3 version of BioShock alongside 2K Marin, 2K Boston, and 2K Australia.[3]
BioShock for PS3 is currently under development by 2K Marin, 2K Boston and 2K Australia, and Digital Extremes will assist in optimizing the game for Sony's console.[4] Shipping to retailers in October 2008 with new features and content, the PS3 version of BioShock is being developed by 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes.[5] Work on the PS3 version is being handled between original developers 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia and by the sounds of it Digital Extremes will be in charge of making it all run lovely on the PS3 hardware.[6]
Along with 2K Boston and 2K Australia, which originally produced and released the game on PC and Xbox 360 last August, 2K Marin and external studio Digital Extremes are aiding in the port's development.[7] Founded in 1993 by industry visionary, James Schmalz, Digital Extremes ranks as one of the world ' s top independent development studios in the interactive entertainment industry. The Canadian based developer is best known for its co-creation of Epic Games ' Unreal, the multi-million unit selling franchise which includes the award-winning PC series Unreal and Unreal Tournament as well as Xbox hit Unreal Championship. Digital Extremes recently shipped the highly-acclaimed next-generation 3 rd person action title, Dark Sector using its proprietary next-gen technology, the Evolution Engine.[8] Digital Extremes is perhaps most well known as the co-creator of Epic's Unreal franchise, but more recently the studio released Dark Sector, a third-person action game for Xbox 360 and PS3, utilising an in-house engine which rivalled Epic's own Unreal Engine 3.[9]
Digital Extremes is the company that brought you Dark Sector to the Xbox 360 and PS3. Apparently they have mastered the PS3 hardware and is more than capable of optimizing the code specifically for that platform. It really is an efficient way of tasking the project.[1]
Take-Two has entered a development partnership with London, Ontario-based Dark Sector developer Digital Extremes for the PS3 version of BioShock.[4] Dark Sector developer Digital Extremes has been named as the third party studio assisting the development of BioShock PS3.[6]
Using the experience it gained from working on the recently released Dark Sector, Digital Extremes is partnering with the 2K studios to help optimize BioShock ' s performance on the PLAYSTATION 3 system.[8] The London, Ontario-based Digital Extremes said it will use its experience gained from working on the recently released Dark Sector to help 2K optimize BioShock's performance on PS3.[10]
"Bringing Digital Extremes on board allows us to continue to deliver the best experience possible to our fans," says 2K president Chris Hartmann, who let's face it is probably a bit biased. The fairy on top of Digital Extremes' Christmas tree of experience, of course, is its part in the development of the Unreal series - a job for which the Canadian studio proudly claims a co-creation credit. Presumably, Digital Extremes' CV also rose to the top of the pile by virtue of its work on the recent cross-platform shooter Dark Sector. Gears of War with a boomerang in some senses, it hardly set Dan Whitehead's world alight when he reviewed it, but it won praise in Round Eleven of our Face-Off series, with Rich Leadbetter making a quietly impressed face at Digital Extremes' very own Evolution Engine.[11]
BioShock will be Digital Extremes' first publically announced project since wrapping development on Dark Sector.[12]
Digital Extremes CEO James Schmalz said in a statement, "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock for the PlayStation 3., it was a no-brainer,". The collaboration on this project will make the sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'."[4] "You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented. The collaboration on this project will make the PlayStation 3 sing with Big Daddy goodness and Little Sister 'thank you's'." It's out in October.[6] Digital Extremes CEO James Schmalz is confident, stating that "You really can't ask for a more exciting, technically impressive world to work in than Rapture, and the incredible knowledge and talent between the 2K studios and our team at Digital Extremes is unprecedented."[11]
Digital Extremes founder James Schmalz said in a statement, "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock for the PlayStation 3 system, it was a no-brainer.[3] NEW YORK--( BUSINESS WIRE )--2K Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:TTWO), announced today that it has signed an agreement with Digital Extremes to assist in the development of BioShock for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system.[8]
Canadian developer and Unreal Engine specialists Digital Extremes are the studio being enlisted by Take-Two to aid BioShock's move to the PlayStation 3.[13] The exact role each studio is playing in the development is unclear, though 2K noted that Digital Extremes is helping "optimize BioShock's performance on the PlayStation 3."[7]
"By partnering with Digital Extremes, 2K Games is delivering a fully optimized experience that takes advantage of the PlayStation 3 system hardware," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Bringing Digital Extremes on board allows us to continue to deliver the best experience possible to our fans."[10] Headquartered in New York City, Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. is a global developer, marketer, distributor and publisher of interactive entertainment software games for the PC, PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system, Xbox 360 and Xbox video game and entertainment systems from Microsoft, Wii, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. The Company publishes and develops products through its wholly owned labels Rockstar Games, 2K Games, 2K Sports and 2K Play, and distributes software, hardware and accessories in North America through its Jack of All Games subsidiary.[8] The recently announced BioShock film is more likely to release alongside the third entry in the game series than the second, according to Take-Two CEO. Publisher 2K Games today announced that 2K Boston and 2K Australia's hit shooter BioShock will soon make its way to the PlayStation 3.[7] Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy director Gore Verbinski (pictured left) has been tapped to direct a feature film adaptation of 2K Games' BioShock, V. A PlayStation 3 version of 2K Boston and 2K Australia's story-driven underwater shooter BioShock will arrive this September, assuming rumors printed w.[7]
The long-rumored PlayStation 3 edition of 2K Boston and 2K Australia's underwater shooter BioShock (PC, 360) has been confirmed by 1UP and sister publ.[7]
Take-Two's recently formed 2K Marin studio is cranking on BioShock 2, and Ken Levine's 2K Boston at work on an unannounced title-- rumored to be an X-Com remake/sequel. It's a wonder, then, that the pair have time for anything else, namely the PlayStation 3 edition of BioShock. Take-Two has decided not to let these two go it alone, however.[12] All four are believed to be working on other projects in addition to BioShock PS3, which could explain the need for multiple studios. 2K Marin is known to be working on the BioShock sequel, while 2K Boston and Australia are rumored to be reviving X-COM.[7] The title will offer support for the PS3's Trophy system, and Digital Extremes will be assisting 2K Marin and 2K Australia, who are also working on the conversion. More on this title as we get it.[13] Today, the publisher announced a partnership with Digital Extremes to help 2K Marin and 2K Australia adapt the award-winning dystopian shooter for Sony's console.[12]

DE previously created Dark Sector, and this will be their next labour of love. With BioShock PS3 presently scheduled for release in October, they're going to have to get their skates on with this conversion, too.[13]
One team concentrates on optimizing the code for the platform, while the original team, Boston creates the extra level and the other teams focus on brining extra content. The extra level and content has been verified by 2K Games president Christopher Hartmann to be exclusive to the PS3 only, so does this make existing Bioshock owners want to get the PS3 version like Hartmann said? For me yes, I have to say I am planning on getting the PS3 version on top of my Xbox 360 version.[1] Long rumored and finally officially announced in May, the PS3 version of the game promises "new features and content" not seen in the Xbox 360 and PC original, due for an October 2008 release.[3]
The tiny portion of shots currently available in the PS3 cafeteria are showing promise, but there's an awful lot to live up to in the game's original PC and Xbox 360 incarnations, with GOTY plaudits flying around like drinks at an epilepsy conference.[11]
The publisher has been slow to trickle out how, exactly, the redux will improve upon the Xbox 360 and PC editions of the game, which were released last August.[12]
BioShock will arrive on the PlayStation 3 in October and is reported to include numerous additions over the original Xbox 360 and PC release.[9] Four separate studios are working collectively to bring the narrative-driven underwater shooter BioShock to PlayStation 3, publisher 2K Games has revealed.[7] "When 2K approached us to assist with development on BioShock for the PlayStation 3, it was a no-brainer," said DE boss James Schmalz.[6]

The PS3 can be a tricky piece of hardware to work with. 2K is employing the help of Digital Extremes to optimize the upcoming PS3 version of BioShock. [10] In addition to the PS3 version, 2K is also working on BioShock 2 for release sometime in 2009, and a film based on the franchise is being helmed by Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, in partnership with Universal Pictures.[10]
No matter what, to me as a huge Bioshock fan not being able to play the version that came out last year and the new version on the PS3 is a crying shame.[1] BioShock is expected to hit PS3 in October with as-yet-unspecified new features and content.[7]
Would Bioshock be the first game to use some what of the potential the PS3 has??? I hope so, I loved the first Bioshock on the 360.[9] Update: While 2K Games has removed the install limit from the PC version of BioShock, other forms of copy protection are still present.[7] BioShock PC Blowout on 2K Games' Cult of Rapture website offers all kinds of information and media related to the PC build of the highly anticipated a.[7]

Headquartered in London, Ontario, Digital Extremes brings more than 15 years of experience as one of the gaming industry ' s premier developers.[8] " Bringing Digital Extremes on board allows us to continue to deliver the best experience possible to our fans[8]

PSP Clings To Top Spot In Japanese Hardware Charts Japan's latest game hardware charts saw a slight dip for the PlayStation Portable - but had Sony's portable still the best selling of the week, keeping ahead of the Wii and a resurgent DS. Xbox 360 sales also doubled following a good week for software sales - full stats within. [3] The game recieved generally positive reviews on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in March.[12]

The Canadian studio has proven itself in the past by developing games like Dark Sector and the Unreal-series. [14] Dark Sector's supposed to be a good game (I plan on getting to it sooner or later), and it's supposed to run great on both consoles, so this doesn't sound like a bad idea. I'd love it if they upgrade it, even if just a bit-throw in some shinier graphics, a new area or something.[4]

Q&A: Pligersdorffer And A Taste Of Cyanide French development studio Cyanide have a surprisingly diverse product strategy, including cross-platform Games Workshop license Blood Bowl and free-to-play PC MMO Dungeon Party - CEO Patrick Pligersdorffer talks with Gamasutra about why Cyanide are proud to be seen as a PC developer, talks piracy and discusses the French development community. [3] Jun 4 - Work is ongoing at three 2K studios plus a development partner with "outstanding" PS3 skills.[9]
Yeah thats what I was thinking. DE has a proven track record with working with the Unreal engine, even if theyre games have sort of bombed. Ill always love them for their work on Unreal Tournament. There is a reason the UT series took a nose dive, and its no coincidence that it happened when Epic and DE ended their partnership.[15] Formed late last year, 2K Marin is said to be made up of several ex-BioShock staffers and has been tasked with the next BioShock game.[7] BioShock is a revolution in the shooter genre that will forever change the expectations for the FPS. Going beyond "run and gun corridors," "monster-closet AIs" and static worlds, BioShock creates a living, unique and unpredictable FPS experience.[14] Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad. BioShock not only challenges players ' capacity to adapt and survive, but brings to question their values and commitment to the inhabitants of Rapture. With smart and adaptive AI, no encounter ever plays out the same, while numerous customization options provide gamers with an experience that adapts to their playing style.[8]
