SOURCESFIND OUT MORE ON THIS SUBJECTSony Ericsson has announced the forthcoming launch of the Xperia X10 Android smart device, which will be the first Android device from the manufacturer. The X10 will feature a new user interface that features custom applications developed by Sony Ericsson such as Timescape and Mediascape, Timescape being a converged messaging application which includes social network access while Mediascape is a media management application that includes YouTube support and access to Sony Ericsson's PlayNow app store. The X10 technical specifications consist of a 4 inch widescreen WVGA resolution touch display that is scratch resistant thanks to its glass front capacitive display, Android 1.6, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, quad-band GSM/EDGE radios and 850/1900/2100MHz UMTS/HSPA support for the U.S. market. It also features an 8.1 megapixel camera that supports geo-tagging, face and smile detection, image stabilization, auto-focus and flash, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, GPS/Wi-Fi radios and integration with Google services such as Maps, Gmail, Calendar and Talk. It will be available in the first quarter of 2010 in black or white with no pricing information at this time.
[1] Just as promised in the
teaser video, Sony Ericsson today launched their first Android offering, the XPERIA X10. Prior reports called this touchscreen beauty the Rachael and
XPERIA X3, but now that it'''s official, everyone can call it the XPERIA X10. Aside from its 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 4-inch scratch-resistant touchscreen, 8.1-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS, it will also come with variety of imaging features including intelligent face recognition, image stabilization, touch focus, geotagging and smile detection, a WebKit web browser, 3.5mm jack, and 1GB memory. The XPERIA X10 does lack a flash though and only runs on Android 1.6, but will come with their new UX interface which was previewed in
video a couple of months back. They're also introducing two new apps with the X10: Mediascape and Timescape.
[2] Unlike the Motorola MILESTONE (and DROID ), the XPERIA X10 is running Android 1.6 instead of Android 2.0. Sony Ericsson have enhanced the standard Android offering with something they call the " UX platform " which stands for "User Experience". This adds some ghastly-named features called "Timescape" and "Mediascape" to organise communications and multimedia files in a seamless way. Sony Ericsson say that UX will evolve and add new features as it goes along. all very well if Sony Ericsson stick to their word, but owners of older Sony Ericsson smartphones often complained of patchy support after purchase.
[3] Many handset makers are increasingly turning to the Google Android platform in an effort to see off the challenge posed by Apple's iPhone. Unlike the iPhone, most Android devices are able to run background apps, allowing people to get push notifications when they receive a new Facebook message or tweet, and feature "social" phone books, that pull in contacts from a wide variety of online and offline sources, and thread conversations regardless of the method of communication used to contact a friend. "The Xperia X10 is Sony Ericsson's first foray into the Android market, and the degree of customisation they have applied to Google's operating system is certainly ambitious," said Ernest Doku, an analyst with mobile phone comparison site
Omio.
[4] Sony Ericsson is putting the final touches on a new flagship device and range of socially-connected mobile phones set to be released within the first half of 2010. On November 3 Sony Ericsson revealed their flagship device named the XPERIA X10. It is the first Sony Ericsson device to feature Google's Android OS. The XPERIA X10 will be the headlining device for Sony Ericsson's latest mobile phone range.
[5] Sony Ericsson
today announced its Xperia X10 smartphone, based on Android, which features a customized software layer called UX built on top of the open-source operating system. It's the first of a family of smartphones that the company plans to deliver in the first half of next year, and won't be available until then. While it has some high-end features that could help it compete with the
much-hyped Droid, unlike Motorola's and Verizon's handset, this phone has a surprising shortcoming.
[6] Sony Ericsson had unveiled XPERIA X10, its first handset built on Google's Android operating system. It introduces a new UX platform that will evolve across the product portfolio and expand over time adding new features and capabilities.
[7] Sony Ericsson today unveiled the highly-expected XPERIA X10 Android-based smartphone with the new UX interface platform, a Wireless Stereo Headset and a pretty neat set of features. Contrary to the rumors that spoiled this announcement, the XPERIA X10 will be running Android Donut (version 1.6) and not ''clair (version 2.0).
[8] The Xperia X10 comes with a four-inch screen and an 8.1-megapixel camera. It uses version 1.6 of Android and the Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 1GH processor. Sony Ericsson says its UX platform builds on top of the open OS and creates a unique Sony Ericsson user experience by combining best-in-class entertainment features with signature applications, integration of social media services and a rich graphical user interface.
[9] Well, add the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, or "Rachael," to the list. At present, the Xperia X10 stands out as perhaps the premier Android phone for amateur photographers, if only because of its camera hardware: an 8.1 megapixel camera sensor pushes the X10 into the point-and-shoot camera category, and the phone contains a 16X digital zoom, auto focus, smile detection, geotagging, and even image and video stabilization. There's one additional nifty photo feature: face recognition, which can apparently identify up to five faces per photo and link them to your contacts and social connections. If this works as advertised, it seems like a real step up over other platforms.
[10] Sony Ericsson's first ever Android based handset - Rachael - has been
officially announced by the company. While we knew about the existence of this phone from the company for ages now, it is nevertheless good to see Sony Ericsson going public with the announcement of the device. Known as the Xperia X3 in its earlier avatar, it seems to have got a new name X10. It was just yesterday that we posted a story about the video of the UI of the phone in action. As known by most people who have been following this story for over six months now, Rachael will come with a 1Ghz snapdragon processor, a huge four-inch capacitive display and of course, the much talked about Rachael UI that seemed pretty good on the emulators
videos we have seen so far.
[11] The snappy UI that was visible in the videos lagged quite a bit in reality. That can be excused considering it was an early build of the phone. Now, we would like to remind you that this is NOT the launch of the Xperia X10. Sony Ericsson has merely acknowledged the existence of this phone officially. This phone is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2010 and with Sony s not-so-good background in delivering the goods on time, we can only hope the Xperia X10 is not outclassed by other devices by the time of its official launch.
[11] Sony Ericsson is finally entering the smartphone market with the launch of the new X10 - its first mobile phone to run on Google's Android operating system. The world's fourth largest handset maker is losing money and revenue - its sales fell 45% in the third quarter. This is partly due to a lack of attractive high-end models - something which the likes of Apple, Samsung and Nokia introduced years ago.
[12] HELSINKI (Reuters) - Sony Ericsson unveiled its flagship X10 mobile phone on Tuesday, its first to run on Google Inc's Android operating system, hoping the device will help reverse its loss of market share. Android has gained impetus this year as handset vendors like Motorola Inc look for ways to beat Apple Inc's iPhone.
[13] Been asleep for the last eight hours? You've missed a lot: as well as all the tech snippets from around the globe, Sony Ericsson's only gone and outed its new Android phone. The big news is in mobile: Sony Ericsson has outed its first Android phone, the Xperia X10. Not only did we go hands-on with the touchscreen slab, but we got word of follow ups on both Android and Symbian. Elsewhere in mobile, we took a look at a new Sonos app for BlackBerry and unboxed the HTC HD2, while Command & Conquer Red Alert made its way on to the iPhone App Store, along with a handy new car DIY app.
[14] Sony Ericsson announced that it will be available in the first quarter of 2010 though falling short of revealing its retail price. It was likewise disclosed that the XPERIA X10 is just the first in a whole new family of mobile phones slated to debut next year.
[2] At the minimum, the phone's high-powered Qualcomm ( NSDQ: QCOM ) Snapdragon may drain the battery. Engadget's Vladislav Savov writes: "We got the gist of what SE was trying to do here, but there's absolutely no way to evaluate whether the company has succeeded when usability was this low. With its Donut not even half baked, SE faces quite a challenge in trying to deliver its promised release in the first quarter of 2010." Sony Ericsson's Head of Application Planning for the Xperia X10 Erica Kato Marcus walks through both Timescape and Mediascape in a video, and while it all looks pretty cool and magical, it's really unclear what's going on.
[15] Sony Ericsson's first handset to incorporate the super-hip Google Android operating system, the XPERIA X10 model sports a four-inch-wide touch screen, and is loaded with an 8.1 megapixel camera, 3D games and video applications, among other things.
[16] The skyrocketing Android operating system must be catching on when Sony Ericsson jumps on board. What a debut! The newly announced Xperia X10 has a relatively huge 4-inch capacitive touch screen, and Sony Ericsson has managed to make a good thing even better with its "Rachel" interface atop the
already appealing Android. Too bad we'll have to wait until early next year for this is slim, attractive smartphone with its 8.1-megapixel autofocusing camera with video recording, steadied by an image and video stabilizer. It's all goosed up with that 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm.
[17] The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Android phone is a first for the company. It packs a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, a large 4 inch touch screen display, an 8.1 megapixel camera and of course, the Rachel interface that everyone thought was the name of the phone.
[18] The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is Sony Ericsson's first Android phone, featuring a very large 4" touchscreen display and an 8.1 megapixel camera, plus WiFi, GPS and 3.5G support.
[3] On the hardware front, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is pretty much the phone we've seen leaked for months. It's got a 4-inch, capacitive touchscreen, eight megapixel camera, a superfast 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3G and Wi-Fi, plus a microSD slot. Up close, it's a gorgeous slab, if not quite as skinny as the HTC HD2.
[19] New applications can be downloaded from the Android Market or Sony Ericsson's PlayNow service. Inside the XPERIA X10 is 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, making this one of the fastest handsets of its class.
[3] The Xperia X10 will run applications from both the Android Market and Sony Ericsson's PlayNow Arena. There is no price available yet, but it already looks like this phone will have a tough time competing unless it sees an upgrade to Android 2.0 as it goes to market.
[6] Sony Ericsson's head of portfolio planning, Steve Walker, told us that this is just the start, and that in future we'll see closer integration with other Sony products, though he wouldn't comment as to whether the PS3 was a possibility, via Remote Play like the Sony Ericsson Aino. Are there any downers to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10? A few: it's only running Android 1.6 rather than 2.0, although Sony Ericsson says it will move to tasty Android 2.0 "in time", and there's no multitouch for pinch zooming. Otherwise though, it's shaping up to be a stonking phone, and more than a worthy entry into the world of Android for Sony Ericsson.
[19] Called X10, the flagship smartphone comes with a new Sony Ericsson-designed user interface that aggregates the user's contacts and communications from the likes of Facebook and Twitter into a single address book. The system is akin to HTC's Sense interface, and Motorola's Motoblur interface, both of which feature on the respective companies' new Android phones. "It's time for Sony Ericsson to put more focus on the smartphone market and Android is a good platform for them to do this," said Roberta Cozza, principal analyst at Gartner.
[20] The company'''s move toward Android-based phones is widely seen as an attempt by the handset maker to win back some market share. The trailing of the X10 before the key Christmas selling season may harm the prospects of its other phones such as the top- of-the-line Satio, according to some analysts. Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi said she believes some consumers will think about waiting until the first quarter to get their hands on the X10 rather than get a Satio for Christmas. "It was a difficult call to make trying not to negatively impact products like the Satio. while at the same time announce something that will persuade consumers not to go to another brand," Milanesi said. Shaun Collins, chief executive of British research firm CCS Insight, said Sony Ericsson has clarified its strategy and understands that its users no longer want megapixels and megabytes but Facebook and Twitter. Other analysts like Neil Mawston from Strategy Analytics believes the X10 is a high-value smartphone that will help Sony Ericsson back on the road toward profitability.
[21] Here's the rub: The X10 is being announced just as Sony Ericsson's current top-end model, the Satio, is going on-sale. That handset features a 12-megapixel camera. "I think some consumers will think about waiting until the first quarter to get their hands on the X10, rather than get a Satio for Christmas," said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi. "It was a difficult call to make trying not to negatively impact products like the Satio. while at the same time announce something that will persuade consumers not to go to another brand," Milanesi said.
[22] The X10 handset is Sony Ericsson's first model to be powered by Google's Android operating system, and will go on sale in the first quarter of next year.
[23] Handset maker Sony Ericsson today announced its first Android powered phone, the Experia X10, which will be available early next year.
[24] We're still suffering the aftershock of Sony Ericsson's bold move in to Android territory announced early this morning, but that's not the only breaking tech news right now this wet morning. There's plenty of news to whet the appetite of iPhone fans this morning: Adobe is playing rough by flagging up Apple's refusal to let Flash onto the iPhone, while Vodafone teased us with goodies to come with the device on its network in 2010. Elsewhere in mobile, we saw the first official video of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, while in gaming, another shocking moment from Modern Warfare 2 was leaked, and in gadgetry, Creative is prepping a Zii e-reader of its very own. The lowly bedside radio just got an upgrade with the Pure Siesta Flow, and we put it through its pace in our full review.
[25] Sony Ericsson has officially launched the Xperia X10, formerly known as the X3 or Rachael, a smartphone that is the first device build by the company using Google's Android platform.
[26] The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 comes with the clever "Rachael" UI is pasted on top of Android, and does a fantastic job of pulling in information that's relevant both online and off, but the big secret is that Sony Ericsson doesn't need Google's platform to work its magic. It's planning follow ups with the same software running on Symbian, just like the Sony Ericsson Satio.
[27] The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Android phone is real. After months of leaks, it's finally broken cover officially, and while Sony Ericsson did a better job than most of keeping the name under wraps, the Google phone formerly known as the X3 is now out of the gates, with that gorgeous new UI in tow.
[19] As well as promising Android follow ups to the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson's head of portfolio planning, Steve Walker, let slip that the social network juggling Rachael UI, is headed to Symbian powered Sony Ericsson phones in future too.
[27] The former works like Motorola's Motoblur, pulling in emails, texts, Facebook and Twitter into a reverse chronological stream. Touch a contact's profile picture within it, and you can pull up all the relevant information around them. Messages, numbers, it's all here. It'll even drag in photos of them. Mediascape on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 works just as we saw in the teaser video yesterday, aggregating your own music as well as recommendations from the PlayNow service (Sony Ericsson says mobile networks' own music stores can plug themselves in here too, if they like). There are a couple of truly classy touches in Mediascape too: pressing the "Infinite" button on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 while listening to music pulls up Youtube content related to the artist you're listening to, while Sony Ericsson has also included face tagging, so you can shoot photos of someone once, and they'll be automatically tagged in the future.
[19] The news article down at
What Mobile says that
Sony Ericsson recently unveiled the much leaked
Xperia X10. Well, from the way the news is breaking all over the mobile community, the news feels more like its spreading like wildfire, and we are all adding fuel to the flames.
[28] Sony Ericsson today officially unveiled its first Android-based phone, the Xperia X10, a flagship phone in its new family of phones coming to market in the first half of 2010.
[9] "The XPERIA X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximizes choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience," said Bert Nordberg ( News - Alert ), president of Sony Ericsson.
[16] The headset also features a "crystal clear" OLED display, easy-access controls and RDS radio station information, so "you don't even need to take your phone with you to tune in to your favorite radio station," Sony Ericsson said in a press release. Available in early 2010, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is being hailed by its maker as the first in a family of phones to deliver a consistent user experience where communication "truly becomes entertainment."
[29] The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10, available in early 2010, is slated to be "the first phone in a family of phones" to deliver a consistent user experience where communication truly becomes entertainment, according to the London-based handset manufacturer.
[16] We've been waiting a long time for Sony Ericsson to give the goods on their first Android-based handset and today they delivered.'' The phone is called XPERIA X10 and it's stunning any way you look at it.''
[30] Sony Ericsson today announced the Xperia X10, a visually stunning phone that has a feature set to match its good looks. The phone isn't set to drop until 2010, however, and this means that potential buyers of Sony Ericsson's current flagship phones, including the Satio and Aino, will now possibly wait until the release of the X10.
[31] The XPERIA X10 will feature Sony Ericsson's newly-released UX (user experience) platform, signature applications, social media services and Sony Ericsson's newly developed "intelligence capabilities."
[5] Sony Ericsson head of portfolio planning has confirmed to
Electricpig.co.uk that they do plan to port the new UI to Symbian handsets. I will not be at all surprised, if their'' own high end feature phones will get the same UX'' too. The other thing, revealed in
Sony Ericsson communication to developers today, is that they plan to open Mediascape and Timescpe UI apps to third party developers, by releasing SDK sometime in 2010. We are keen to open up the APIs for these applications, and we welcome a dialog with developers to get ideas and feedback, with a view to launching a Sony Ericsson SDK in early 2010. This common UI across multiple platforms approach, is actually nothing new.
[32] The X10 will be the first handset to rely on Sony Ericsson's new UX platform, which will evolve and expand over time with new features and capabilities.
[29] The Satio and the Aino that Sakaguchi is referring to are two Symbian-based smartphones that were released internationally last month, but aim at a slightly less upmarket audience compared to the X10, which will be the flagship model in Sony Ericsson's 2010 range of devices. Time will tell if the X10's announcement cannibalizes sales numbers for these other two impressive devices. The most noteworthy feature of the phone is its "4-inch capacitive touch display" that's capable of showing 854x480 pixels, making the X10 the smartphone with the highest resolution display, by far.
[31] The
Motorola DROID was nice to muse at a couple of weeks ago, but now that the new Xperia has finally taken solid form, I know what I want. The only other device that stands close to the
X10 in terms of hardware is the
HTC HD2, and I will tell you right now, the HD2 looks meek compared to this powerhouse from Sony Ericsson. The reason for such thankfulness for the X10 actually stems from the amount of recent disappointment Sony Ericsson has been giving its fans. Most particularly, the
Xperia X2 ; this device was a resistive touch screen phone running Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional.
[33] "Sales of Xperia handsets running on Windows were probably below expectations. Android offers Sony Ericsson a more flexible platform that users want. you're limited today with what you can do with Windows," she told Total Telecom. Sony Ericsson's performance has faltered over the last year as the recession hit consumer spending on its core mid-tier products particularly hard. Cozza commented that Android offers Sony Ericsson the opportunity to reinvigorate its mid-range portfolio. "It would be nice to see this kind of user experience appear in different form factors and at different price points, and I would expect Sony Ericsson to deliver more mid-tier phones based on Android," she said. Meanwhile Microsoft needs to be more radical in its approach to Windows Mobile in order to prevent it from being squeezed out of the market, said Cozza. "Microsoft is being squeezed from one end by this open source approach from the likes of Android, Symbian open source, Maemo and LiMo, and squeezed from the other by RIM and Apple, which offer closed environments that users are very happy with," she said. "Microsoft sits in the middle and demands licence fees. it's in a tricky situation."
[20] The interface - known as the UX platform - will be overlaid on the existing
Google Android foundations to provide "unrivalled" integration of social media services, and Sony Ericsson says it will be the first mobile phone to "truly humanise the way people interact with their phones".
[4] Timing aside, what's in the box.? Sony Ericsson has decided to utilize a new touchscreen user interface, which it calls the 'UX platform' and will provide "unrivalled" integration of social media, services like Facebook, Myspace and Twitter. The phone also promises to allow users to "truly humanise the way people interact with their phones".
[31] The news reports about the new
Sony Ericsson X10 Android handset today were mainly focused on it'''s awesome specs and cool Timescape and Mediascape user interface apps, ''on top of Android 1.6. They are indeed pretty cool.
[32] Known as the Xperia X10, Sony's first entry in the Android space introduces a new Wireless Stereo Headset, along with a new user interface platform called UX and new apps dubbed Mediascape and Timescape.
[34] The X10 also features a Mediascape application that helps users retrieve multimedia content from multiple sources, including YouTube, PlayNow as well as the phone itself. The new Xperia is powered by an open UX platform that supports downloads from a number of app stores, such as PlayNow and the Android Market.
[35] Like Motorola's MOTOBLUR, Sony uses a UX skin on top of the Android shell. One application, TimeScape, seems reminiscent of both the Cliq and Droid, in that it allows the user to manage all of his or her social interactions with other users in one place: Facebook, for example, plus MySpace and others. (Apparently, pressing an "infinite button" coalesces the contact information.) A second app, MediaScape, organizes all of the user's media files, along with YouTube and the Sony PlayNow service. Other features include Wi-Fi, A2DP Bluetooth stereo, support for MP3 and AAC, Exchange support with ActiveSync, assisted GPS, and Google Maps.
[10] Much like Motorola's Blur technology, Sony ( NYSE: SNE ) Ericsson ( NSDQ: ERIC ) said Timescape will manage all your conversations from Facebook, Twitter, emails and texts in the same place. Mediascape helps you get music, photos and videos from your phone, YouTube and PlayNow, its own storefront. In practice, this means users can press the new '''infinite button''' to aggregate all your interactions with one person into one view, and face recognition technology allows you associate faces in any picture with your social phonebook.
[15] What we're looking at here is nothing short of ambitious: you can see how Sony Ericsson intends to thread in all your messaging and Facebook banter into one stream via Timescape, and how easy it is to skip to photos of a contact - potentially made even easier by face tagging. It's also a good chance to get a look at a white Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, as the only preview model available at the launch was black.
[36] Sony Ericsson's slick new skin for the Xperia X10 might be headed to Symbian phones, but anyone hoping for a bit of backwards compatibility with the Sony Ericsson Satio had better guess again. The Japanese-Swedish outfit has confirmed to us that it won't be getting an update to join in with its newer sibling's Timescape social networking japes.
[37] There's one special laydee that's headlining today's tech news and that's Rachael, Sony Ericsson's finally revealed Xperia X10, a customised Android handset that we've brought you both news and images of.
[38] Like the perfect little black dress needs great four-inch heels for its wearer to work a room, great gadgets also need the right accessories. To accompany its Google Android-laced XPERIA X10 handset, announced today, Sony Ericsson ( News - Alert ) has also introduced a
new wireless stereo headset with a built-in FM Radio and advanced Bluetooth technology.
[29] Sony Ericsson unveiled the Xperia X10 today, the handset-makers' first device running Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Android.
[15] The announcement of the Xperia X10 provides further momentum for the Google Android platform, however, it may not help Sony Ericsson given that it will not hit stores until after the holiday season. Engadget
got its hands on an early build of the device and was skeptical that Sony Ericsson will be able to deliver on all of its promises.
[15] Our friends over at
Engadget obsessively cover everything new in gadgets and consumer electronics, which is why we compile this daily roundup of their top stuff (or, at least, what we think is tops). For more details on any of these stories, click on the Engadget links in each story below. With the
DROID launching this Friday it's going to be hard for any other Android device to capture an audience, but the lovely design of Sony Ericsson's
XPERIA X10 might just be the ticket.
[39] Yes people, say hello to Sony Ericsson'''s first ever Android phone ''' the XPERIA X10.
[40] The
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 isn'''t due until the first quarter of 2010, so to keep your interest in the Sony Ericsson smartphone we have a couple of videos for your viewing pleasure.
[41] The XPERIA X10 will be available in selected markets during the first quarter of 2010 while other XPERIA-based Sony Ericsson handsets are expected to be released in the first half of 2010.
[5] Sony Ericsson say that the XPERIA X10 should start to be available during Q1 2010 with other markets following in the first half of the year.
[3] Sony Ericsson says its first Google Android-based device, the Xperia X10, will go on sale early next year.
[4] You've seen the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 up close on camera already, but how about a bit of motion footage to go with it? The first official Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 video is up, and we've got it right here so you can see just how that clever Rachael skin works.
[36] The Videos which can be viewed below courtesy of the guys over at
engadget mobile last 1:30 and 2:06 in duration and the first if a polished advertising promotional video for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 while the other is a demonstration of Speed Forge 3D.
[41] The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will be on sale in the first quarter of 2010, with network carriers still to be confirmed.
[19] Sony Ericsson hasn't given out any pricing details, but expect the XPERIA X10 to start shipping in the first quarter of 2010.
[8] In a statement, Sony Ericsson President Bert Nordberg said the reaction from global operator partners to the Xperia X10 has been "extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010."
[9] The skin (codenamed Rachael, but nameless at the time of our briefing due to legal reasons and due diligence checking) for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 focuses around two signature applications, Timescape, and Mediascape.
[19] Sony Ericsson has officially launched the Xperia X10, formerly known by the codenames X3 or Rachael.
[31] Ignore the jarring aspirational lifestyle "professionals" in the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 video and concentrate on the handset itself.
[36] Sony Ericsson's newest handset - the
Xperia X10 - isn't due until February next year, but it's already up for pre-order from Clove Technology.
[42] We'll shout up as soon as details on future Sony Ericsson models emerge, but for now enjoy the Xperia X10.
[43] Here's the rub: The X10 is being announced just as Sony Ericsson's current top-end model, the Satio, is going on-sale. That handset features a 12-megapixel camera.
[44] Most of the Sony Ericsson phones that I have seen and reviewed have had above average image quality when came to the camera. I would bet on this one being a pretty good camera as well. As we had been informed by the rumor mill, the infinity symbol is part of the X10'''s UI. It signifies the Timescape feature.
[40] The Sony Ericsson X10 will feature a 4-inch touchscreen display and 8.1-megapixel digital camera. It will also come equipped with a speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.
[45] Christmas is finally here! Yep, we are not quite past the Halloween season and yet,
Sony Ericsson is bringing the spirit of the holidays a little earlier with the initial
pre-release images of the X10. I do not know about you, but I plan on getting me one these buggers when it finally comes out. Maybe it'''s the 4 inch screen, maybe it'''s the Snapdragon processor; there are just so many impressive things about this mobile phone that tells me that I have got to have it.
[33] Making a big move into the world of wireless entertainment and social media, Sony Ericsson ( News - Alert )
announced the release of its X10 flagship mobile phone on Tuesday.
[16] Today Ericsson made big news with the official announcement of the Xperia X10. This new Android smartphone is far and away the most powerful mobile announced so far. Now that we know just what hardware this baby will pack, the only question remaining is what carriers will get this gorgeous new phone. Ericsson hasn't officially announced that yet, but the fact that they've unveiled it must mean that they at least have a deal close to ironed out. Android and Me points out that the X10 could easily be coming out for both AT&T and T-Mobile. How is this possible? Because the Rachel packs WCDMA/UMTS 1700/2100, which means this handset is T-Mo 3G ready.
[46] Analyst concerned over consumer perception of Google's operating system as new Xperia handset leaves Windows out in the cold. Sony Ericsson delivered a blow to Microsoft on Tuesday when it unveiled its latest Xperia handset, which unlike its Windows-powered predecessors is based on Google's Android operating system.
[20] The new gadget will be the first Sony Ericsson phone working with Google'''s Android operating system.
[47] The phone will go on sale early in the first quarter of 2010 and Sony Ericsson said it would be the first of a family of Android-based phones that it will launch over next year. The phone's user interface was given an overhaul to help owners organize their use of sites such as Twitter, Facebook, e-mail and other messaging applications, Sony Ericsson officials said.
[21] Sony Ericsson's rumored Android-based Xperia handset is expected to launch on Tuesday, with a brand new user interface codenamed Rachel.
[48] As we wait for the device to launch, two YouTube videos about the device have surfaced in recent weeks. One is a promo for the new Xperia handset coming directly from Sony Ericsson (SE).
[48] Sony Ericsson's head of portfolio planning Steve Walker was on hand at the launch of the Sony Ericsson Xperia 10, and told us that the touchscreen telephone was just the "first of a range, a family of products" featuring the new social networking UI.
[43] According to a
news release Tuesday datelined London, the X10 is the flagship of a new line of smartphones Sony Ericsson will release in the first half of 2010.
[24] SONY ERICSSON today released details of its X10 smartphone, which it is billing as the first in a family of phones "to deliver a consistent user experience where communication truly becomes entertainment." We are not sure what this means but we guess it is claiming that it is the first phone to make talking fun, but we would have thought people have been talking on the phone for a fun for a while.
[49] The XPERIA X10 is a useful addition to Sony Ericsson's range which has recently been a bit short of smartphones.
[3] Not a lot else to say really except hit up the
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 videos below and enjoy until we come across some more.
[41] To begin with, you can sate yourself with our Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 hands-on gallery.
[43] Rikko Sakaguchi, chief creation officer of Sony Ericsson, said: '''The Xperia X10 is a fantastic example because we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible.'''
[7] The X10 sports an eight-megapixel camera, touch screen, GPS and can use apps from the Android Market or Sony Ericsson's Play Now Arena.
[21] The phone - which features an 8.1-megapixel camera, music player, high-speed web access, Google Maps, and a touch-screen interface - will be the "flagship handset" in Sony Ericsson's 2010 range.
[4] The new Xperia X10 handset features an 8.1-megapixel camera, a 4 inch wide touch screen, and is built around Google's Android OS and Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor.
[22] The new Xperia X10 features a wide 4-inch capacitive touch display, 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, memory of up to 16GB, web access and Google Maps.
[7] We have two new features with XPERIA X10's user interface (Rachel), called Timescape and Mediascape.
[8] Listed below are links to blogs that reference this entry:
Android Invaison: Sony Xperia X10 with UX Mediascape & Timescape.
[50] Mediascape lets you browse through local and online photo, video and audio content, and Timescape lets you organize and interact with your contacts across a wide range of messaging platforms. Both of which are part of the UX platform that will be arriving on several handsets from Sony Ericsson next year.
[42] With Sony Ericsson's Timescape, Mediascape and more on board though, the Rachel UI could give the Symbian platform a new lease of life.
[27] Steve Walker, head of portfolio planning at Sony Ericsson, confirmed to us that, although the new skin will be cross platform, it won't be applied to existing Symbian Sony Ericsson handsets, like the 12 megapixel Sony Ericsson Satio. When Sony Ericsson drops a Symbian handset with the same skin, it's possible it'll use the same capacitive touchscreen tech: the Nokia X6 has already proved it'll work with Symbian.
[37] "Samsung's recent and planned smartphone releases now include Android, Windows Mobile, and Symbian platforms," Spektor told TMCnet. "While this tactic might hedge against some of the market risks, like regional preference variations or one platform falling behind in developer support, Sony Ericsson takes on the risk of spreading its finite R&D resources across too many software platforms.
[16] Over the weekend it was rumored that the new Sony Ericsson Xperia Android smartphone would be called the the Xperia 3, that was previously code-named Rachel.
[50] Take a look at the new Sony Ericsson Rachael teaser video here and stay tuned for more on Sony E's Android coming very soon.
[51] Sony Ericsson' s Rachael was first seen back in July along with its gorgeous UI running atop Android. That video hogged headlines for a few weeks before dying down.
[52] If rumours prove right, the Sony Ericsson Rachael Android smartphone is rapidly approaching launch, but there's still time for a few leaks to sneak through, and this here video showing off the Rachael/Xperia X3's multimedia juggling skills is the best of the bunch.
[51] Sony Ericsson unveiled its first Google Android-based smartphone today, following rivals such as
Samsung,
LG, and
Motorola onto the Android bandwagon.
[45] Of top vendors only Nokia Oyj has not unveiled any Android plans. Loss-making Sony Ericsson, the world's fourth largest handset maker, has suffered since 2008 from a lack of attractive high-end models in its offering, and saw overall third-quarter sales shrink 45 percent year-on-year.
[13] The Satio and the Aino were two Symbian-based smartphones that were released back in October but aim at a slightly less upmarket audience compared to the X10 which will be the flagship model in Sony Ericsson's 2010 range of devices.
[26] Though the handset maker shipped 14.1 million units during the quarter, total sales dropped from $4.17 in the same period last year to $2.4 billion. "Having had a relatively weak presence in the smartphone and touchphone market segments, Sony Ericsson will definitely be served well by the addition of a touchscreen-enabled smartphone to its device portfolio," Alex Spektor, a wireless device analyst with Strategy Analytics, told TMCnet.
[16] According to a Reuters story on the announcement, Sony Ericsson needs a hit like the X10 to reverse shrinking market share. Its sales for the third quarter of this year were off by 45 percent from the year ago quarter.
[24] Sony Ericsson's portfolio is still not effectively addressing the growing messaging phone category." Overall, the X10 should have a "halo effect" on Sony Ericsson, Spektor said, adding that a stronger portfolio in key segments like touchphones and messaging phones will be needed to take full advantage of this effect.
[16] One executive vice president of Sony Ericsson, Rikko Sakaguchi, said in a statement that "With the X10, we are raising the bar we have set ourselves with entertainment-rich phones like Aino and Satio by making communication more fun and playful, multiplying and enriching opportunities to connect."
[26] The
Sony Ericsson X10 is a huge leap over other mobile phones.
[53] Sony Ericsson, the mobile phone maker, yesterday unveiled a smartphone that it hopes will rival Apple's iPhone.
[23] The only thing I am hoping for now is a version of the X10 with a physical keyboard and I'''m all set to go. This entry was posted on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 at 3:20 pm and is filed under

[28] For now, it looks like we are getting the fingerprint magnet cover reminiscent of the Sony PS3. This entry was posted on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 at 4:07 pm and is filed under

[53] In all honesty, I actually hate the pictures. I mean look at that phone! It is hardly past pre-production stage and yet Sony Ericsson is much too excited to show it to us; maybe that external design is close to the final product, maybe.
[53] Sony Ericsson'''s Rachael has become official. The amount of speculation and expectation that this phone had behind it, I was almost apprehensive about the entire thing. It might'''ve been a huge let down.
[40] The phone's screen is a 4-inch, 480-by-854 pixel touchscreen that Sony Ericsson touts as "scratch-resistant".
[10] The rest is admittedly regular smart phone stuff; quad band, WiFi, 3G HSDPA, GPRS, media playback, etc-etc. You get the picture. This entry was posted on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009 at 4:26 pm and is filed under

[33] Introduced Tuesday, the X10, will not ship until after the first of the year, Sony Ericsson said.
[22] Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson, said that the X10 will be in Japanese shops early next year and will be rolled out to other markets later on.
[49] The X10 can record video, but Sony Ericsson have given no details of the handset's video capture resolution and frame rates.
[3] Sony Ericsson's promo videos are always fun and usually have a good soundtrack. and the X10 is no exception.
[3] Sony Ericsson's X10 device is expected to be commercially available in select markets in the early part of 2010.
[45] "The X10 is a high-value smartphone that will help Sony Ericsson back on the road toward profitability," said Strategy Analytics analyst Neil Mawston, referring to the company's loss of market share in recent quarters, and its failure to make a significant impact in the growing smartphone market thus far.
[45] Sony Ericsson's market share in the third quarter was 4.9 percent, down from 8.4 percent a year ago, according to IDC. Strategy Analytics also estimates Sony Ericsson's third-quarter market share at 4.9 percent, just above Motorola's 4.7 percent.
[9] Sony Ericsson didn't show any significant signs of recovery in the
third quarter, when it reported a net loss of $244 million compared to a loss of $36 million a year ago.
[9] Sony Ericsson's handset and accompanying headset face stiff competition in 2010, but on a positive note,
Strategy Analytics has forecasted that the handset industry may return to growth in the fourth quarter of 2009.
[29] Sony Ericsson has reported losses in the last three quarters due to fierce competition from rivals like Apple's iPhone.
[21] Rikko Sakaguchi, EVP and chief creation officer at Sony Ericsson, claimed that the X10 was a "fantastic example of our make.believe philosophy". Apparently this means "pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible". This philosophy is obviously not Plato and sounds a lot more like marketing to us.
[49] Given the specifications Sony Ericsson has revealed, the X10 might be worth seeking out. One that jumped out at me was its 8.1-megapixel camera with up to a 16x digital zoom.
[24] Sony Ericsson's current top model, Satio, with a 12 megapixel camera, has just gone on sale and the announcement could hurt sales in the key period ahead of year-end holidays.
[13] A check of the Web sites of the four major U.S. carriers shows only AT&T and T-Mobile carry any Sony Ericsson models and even then only a handful.
[24] The folks at Android and Me have also heard word that Sony Ericsson is preparing for a big New York event. That could mean any number of things, but considering today's unveiling I think a carrier announcement is the most likely reason. Which carrier is it, AT&T or T-Mo? Either is possible, and both could be the answer as well.
[46] Today's announcement actually gives even more hints, about how Sony Ericsson plans to go bout making new devices that should get it out of the current slump.
[32] "There is solid momentum in the vendor adoption of the platform, but North American leader BlackBerry ( News - Alert ) and Western European leader Symbian will continue to dominate through at least 2012," Spektor said. Another concern is that Sony Ericsson could only be hurting itself by trying to latch onto too many platforms.
[16] That should come as a relief to the Symbian Foundation, as Sony Ericsson had nothing to show in way of new products at the Symbian Exchange and Exposition tradeshow last week.
[27] On October 30, 2009, Sony Ericsson presented an official video featuring the upcoming white version of its smartphone: XPERIA X3.
[47] Sony Ericsson Mediascape is the smart way to get all the music, photos and videos you want from your favourite friends and artists.
[50] There's a YouTube application and a whole host of other Sony Ericsson and Google branded apps to go with it.
[3] Sony Ericsson did not say when the device will go on sale in the UK, nor which networks it will be available on.
[4] Sony Ericsson was not available for comment on pricing information or exact release dates.
[5] Following a trial period during the next year, it would be advisable for Sony Ericsson to reduce to just one or two smartphone platforms." She also compiles and regularly contributes to TMCnet's gadgets and satellite

[16] Expect to see the fruits of Sony Ericsson's labour on Symbian some time next year.
[27] With Motorola's voice navigation-enabled
Droid slated for US availability from Verizon Wireless on November 6, Sony was vague about availability of the X10, saying only that its Android phone will be obtainable in "selected markets" of the world starting in the first quarter of next year.
[34] The new Xperia X10 is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2010.
[7] The Xperia X10 supports GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS HSPA 900/1700/2100 and UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100, and will be available in "selected markets" in the first quarter of 2010 in either black or white.
[10]
HSPA high-speed downloads and uploads are supported, plus WiFi and quad-band GSM. The large screen on the XPERIA X10 means that this is a fairly big device, measuring 119 x 63 x 13mm. The 135 gram weight is quite good for a phone like this, helped in part by the lack of a keyboard. Other features include a 3.5mm audio socket, stereo Bluetooth and an accelerometer.
[3] Comparing the new video to previously leaked shots of the Xperia, you can see that the back will look a lot like a flip phone, but the screen should occupy the opposite side of the device, similar to the iPhone.
[48] The new addition to SE's Xperia lineup should boast some impressive specs, including a 4-inch touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and GPS. We can also tell from the video that the new phone will have a USB port and what looks like a 3.5mm headphone jack.
[48] When you first look at the video, the new phone almost looks like a standard flip phone, similar to how the closed position of Motorola's new Droid handset echoes the look of a Motorola Razr. This is all just camera trickery on SE's part.
[48] The video carries the tagline "What's Next?" and shows off some carefully designed shots of the phone that don't reveal much about the handset's actual design. Another video supposedly shows off some of the features of the new Rachel UI, and looks very similar to a previous Rachel video that was leaked over the summer.
[48] The video below was released in July, and shows other features of the Rachel UI including a slick looking contact manager that displays details for each contact on a translucent business card. The video also demos a virtual keyboard, but it's unclear whether or not the new Xperia handset will carry a physical keyboard as well.
[48] There's also no word on which version of Android, Donut or Eclair, the Rachel UI is based on. SE's announcement on Tuesday should be interesting, but I'm not so sure you'll be seeing this device in American stores any time soon. Even though there is a lot of interest in Android-based devices in the U.S., SE has a habit of releasing their best handsets in Europe and Asia first. It's not clear when, or even if, the new Xperia handset with the Rachel UI will be U.S.-bound.
[48] No I'''m not kidding. With the new
images of the Xperia X10 now out on public, it is only a matter of time before this device takes over the world; or not.
[53] Both, ''Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Timescape/Mediascape UX apps, look good, albeit extremely laggy, in presentation and limited demos. Hope they will iron out the bugs in a couple of months remaining before launch.''
[32] The XPERIA X10 comes with a 4-inch capacitive display, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, an 8.1 mega-pixel camera, and a user interface known as UX.''
[30] The Xperia X10 has an eight megapixel camera, touch screen, GPS and can use apps from the Android Market or SonyEricsson's Play Now Arena.
[54] The Xperia X10 even though it won't ship until next quarter will run Android 1.6. The Droid runs Android 2.0, which has a slew of advanced features and is shipping this month.
[6] Sony created something similiar to the Moto Blur experience. They developed Android apps in what they call the UX Platform for media, contacts/social networking, email syncing and recoginizing faces. In a video demo they make all the features rock.
[50] The phone is based on a new UX platform which is built on top of Google Android 1.6, aka Donut, and provides more entertainment features and shedloads of social notworking services.
[49] The X10 will be the first to introduce SE's new UX platform that will evolve across the product portfolio and expand over time with new features and capabilities.
[16] I personally prefer the device's former name Rachael, but maybe that's just me. Hopefully the X10 will bring a usability as futuristic as its new name suggests. No information on local availability just yet, but expect pricing to be as spectacular as its feature set.
[31] The phone is part of the company's smartphone family of devices, which originally ran Windows Mobile and had a slide-out physical keyboard. While the X10 will have neither of those attributes, it has two new additional software overlays called "Timescape" and "Mediascape."
Release.
[15] "With the X10, we are raising the bar we have set ourselves with entertainment-rich phones like Aino and Satio by making communication more fun and playful, multiplying and enriching opportunities to connect." Like many new mobile phones, the X10 threads conversations by person, rather than by the method used to contact them. It means that users have one-click access to all their communications with a friend, regardless of whether they sent them a text message or email, or even "poked" them on Facebook.
[4] Facial recognition software built in to the phone will be able to analyse and recognise up to five faces in a single picture, automatically connecting that photo with a user's "social phone book" and calls and messages sent to that person. X10 users will also be able to download additional applications and software for their phone from the Android Market.
[4] The phone makes posting photos to social networks and microblogging sites easy with integrated applications, an 8.1 megapixel camera, photo and video uploading to the web, intelligent face recognition and smile detection features and the ability to geotag your photos. Users will also be able to browse the web, record audio notes, send text messages, picture messages and emails, and interact with their device using the 4" scratch resistant touchscreen.
[5] Features include a capacitive touchscreen, the impressive Mediascape media browser that reminds us of the Zune HD'''s UI and face recognition in photos integrated with your contacts. It has an 8.1-megapixel camera with auto focus, face recognition, flash, smile-detection and video recording with video light.
[40] The camera on the X10 has 8.1 megapixels and it packs 16x digital zoom, autofocus, face recognition, geo tagging, image/video stabilizer and light, touch focus and video recording. Other features include a 3.5mm audio jack, Micro USB, stereo Bluetooth with A2DP, USB, WiFi, A-GPS, Media Player, auto rotate and gesture control.
[8] On the back is an 8.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and geo-tagging support. One interesting feature is that the X10 can be trained to recognise people from photographs, and can associate them with contacts already stored in the phone.
[3] The X10's very long list of features also includes a 4-inch WVGA TFT touchscreen, an 8.1 megapixel camera with up to 16x digital zoom, stereo Blueooth (A2DP), Wi-Fi, and GPS.
[34] As previously reported, the X10 has a heavily modded Android 1.6 OS, 4-inch capacitive TFT touchscreen, and 8.1-megapixel camera and a speedy 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It has Wi-Fi, HSUPA and Bluetooth, and comes with an 8GB microSD card. It's packed with a range of apps, too.
[42] Some unofficial sources say that XPERIA X3 will be the most advanced Android smartphone, featuring a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 4-inch touchscreen, with an 852480 resolution.
[47] The X10 runs version 1.6 of Android and inside has a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor from U.S. chip firm Qualcomm.
[54] The X10 will have a 4-inch-wide touch screen, will use Qualcomm Inc's Snapdragon processor and will come with an 8.1 megapixel camera. It will go on sale in selected markets at the start of 2010.
[13] I am not surprised. The X10 deserves this much attention. I just finished mopping up my own drool after going through the press release and I must say that I want more; this phone is just showing lots of promise. The 4 inch display matches the size on the
HTC HD2, but since this is a Sony screen we are talking about, the X10 screen will be much better hands down.
[28] I am still a little confused about what else Sony is planning for the touch screen, it does not appear to be multi touch compatible. Images of the X10 have been popping up this week and we are now seeing more and more details of the actual device itself.
[28] Videos leaked earlier highlighted the X10's user interface, codenamed Rachel, along with touch-based menu items at the bottom of the screen called Timescape, Mediascape, Messaging, and Dialer.
[34] Rachel's Mediascape features integration with SE's Play Now online store, as well as media stored on the device and online content from services like Flickr. It's obvious what the functions of Messaging and Dialer will be, but the video doesn't show off what Timescape does.
[48] Mediascape - a new app for accessing content from a single spot - does feature integration with SE's Play Now online store, along with media stored on the device and online content from services like Flickr.
[34]
Pressing the new "infinite button" guides you through the connected world, aggregating all your interactions with one person into one view. Intelligent face recognition features recognize up to five faces in any picture, automatically connecting them with your social phonebook and all other related communications with that person. Sony Ericsson'san download any application that they want direct from a wide variety of stores including PlayNow and the Android Market.
[50] Needless to say, Sony Ericsson is now officially hooked on the
Android fever.
[2] The Sony Ericsson Rachael UI shown here though is a complete breath of fresh air.
[51] A recent management shake-up replaced a top Sony executive with an Ericsson exec as CEO after the two companies decided to reinvest in the brand rather than kill it. The fourth largest handset maker, Sony Ericsson needs to show it has a future product roadmap that is both exciting and makes sense.
[22] Sony Ericsson Timescape manages all your communication with one person in one place.
[50] Maybe Sony Ericsson is actually wise to sacrifice Satio sales and have happier customers later on. David Coursey tweets as
@techinciter and can be
contacted via his Web site.
[22] "We are pushing the boundaries of what is possible and demonstrating that anything consumers can imagine, we can make possible," said Rikko Sakaguchi, an executive vice president with Sony Ericsson.
[4] Sony Ericsson
remains in deep trouble and is losing money.
[22] What do you mean sony sucks? I have had nothing but ericsson phones and they have been better than any other brand by far. Plus their cameras are better than Canon IMO.
[17] I've never had a Sony cell phone, but I've always been happy with other Sony products. If I were ready to get a new phone, I'd definitely give this one a look.
[17] Now that the phone has been announced, folks at Engadgt did manage to take a first look and post
first impressions of the handset. The first thing they noticed about the UI is that the Rachael UI will be officially known as the UX, which stands for user experience. The version they had was a prototype that lagged and had its share of bugs.
[11] I like the look and the awesome specs, but I am more a fan of the traditional google branded UI for android. The problem with these UIs through other companies is the waiting for upgrade. This phone, last i heard was built on 1.6 and will not have 2.0 at launch.
[30] Some say the manufacturer's first phone using Google's Android operating system - a direct rival to Apple's iPhone ( News - Alert ) -- could help bring the it into a positive light after a its most recent dismal earnings.
[16] Handset maker SonyEricsson has unveiled its first phone built around Google's Android operating system.
[54] The first Google Android 2.0-powered phone is the most exciting thing to appear on Verizon's network in quite a while.
[10] "The XPERIA TM X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience.
[5] The reaction from our global operator partners to the Xperia X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010.'''
[7] Walker did let slip that the next models in the line could surface within the first half of next year, so if you're of the gambling type, a flutter on the Xperia X11 appearing at Mobile World Congress might well be worth it.
[43] SonyEricsson said it would be the first of a family of Android-based phones that it will launch over next year. SonyEricsson said it had given the phone's user interface an overhaul to help owners organise their use of sites such as Twitter, Facebook as well as e-mail and other messaging applications.
[54] The company said that the UX platform, which builds on top of the Open OS, combines entertainment features with signature applications, integration of social media services and a graphical user interface.
[7]
There's no Android 2.0 unfortunately, which means that we'd have to stick with the version 1.6 for the time being. Possibly the single most stunning feature of the phone is its 4-inch capacitive touch display that's capable of showing 854x480 pixels, making by far the smartphone with the highest pixel count.
[26] Camera features include face and smile recognition, allowing the phone to associate photos with names in your contact list.
[22] Timescape is a feature that consolidates your conversations and communications with a person. Be it on
Facebook, text, phone or email, you can view them all in one place per person using Timescape. I personally like this feature because it sounds like something we all need.
[40] Im going to wait to see what happens with the mod crowd that seem to spring up around every phone. It doesnt appear to have a compass. We need someone to get their hands on one to test whether all the nice features like virtual reality overlays etc are possible with this thing. It does seem to be the only stylish phone on the market with droid though. I would get this phone, if only it had a keyboard.
[30] Mediascape is a similar app for accessing content like music, photos and videos from a single spot, getting it from your phone, YouTube Flickr or PlayNow.
[8] Mediascape is similar to Timescape except that it works for your photos and music.'' It shows users what is available on the device or online suggests music based on what's being listened to.'' It can also recommend tracks it thinks you might like from conversations with riends.''
[30] The photos that we have been showing you so far have been absolutely accurate, down to the last details. It looks like Sony has been sitting on the finalized version for quite some time now.
[40] Just like Sony to f-up a good thing. Theyre still vain. Its all about them. Android has proven that its all about the user, not the company.
[30] According to specs provided by Sony, the X10 will run the Donut edition of Android, version 1.6, as opposed to the newer 2.0 (or ''clair) edition.
[34] Sony says the X10 will include location-based services, including A-GPS, Google Maps, and a free trial version of Google's voice-enabled Wisepilot turn-by-turn navigation.
[34] On the X10: camera facial recognition; Google apps like search, Google Maps, Docs and You Tube; GPS and turn-by-turn navigation; and a 4-inch wide touchscreen.
[24] For the last three quarters it has reported losses thanks to fierce competition from rivals, in particular Apple's iPhone. Analysts said the trailing of the X10 before the key Christmas selling season may harm the prospects of its other phones such as the top- of-the-line Satio. "I think some consumers will think about waiting until the first quarter to get their hands on the X10 rather than get a Satio for Christmas," said Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi.
[54] The phone will be available in the first quarter in selected markets. It supports GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS HSPA 900/1700/2100 and UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100.
[9] The X10, known as Rachel while under development, will go on sale early in the first quarter of 2010.
[54] "However, given that the X10 is a flagship-level device aimed at 'prosumers', it does not help to address the growing consumer-level touchphone segment, which is something that rivals LG and Samsung ( News - Alert ) have been doing very well in recent quarters.
[16] SE's new device is expected to be named either the Xperia X3 or X10, and will be launched on Tuesday, November 3.
[48] The iPhone 3GS has a ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz chip not the 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in the Droid or X10. These new phones should smoke the iPhone on pure computing power, not "keep up with it" as you say.
[6] If you have tried it out, let me know in the comments section below. For those of you who were hoping for a physical QWERTY keypad ''' sorry to disappoint you. As I had mentioned in my X10 round up some time back, there is no way this thing is hiding a QWERTY keypad in that slim a profile. The images would'''ve shown it off anyway, given the amount of excitement that surrounded this phone.
[40] The X10 is the company's first foray into the Android market, but the announcement comes at an odd time, especially with Christmas drawing near.
[31] The X10 works with second and third generation mobile networks, including HSPA and wi-fi and it runs version 1.6 of Android.
[21] I really dont want a repeat of that experience. It looks great and I have high hopes it is possible to put the base Android OS the X10.
[30] Not named X3 after all and thankfully not Rachael, the X10 is exactly what we have all been hoping for. Since this is Sony, you can expect stellar aesthetics and build quality.
[40] As Sony described it, Timescape is an application that manages all your communication with a person in one place, allowing you to browse through FaceBook, Twitter, photos and email without changing apps.
[8] While Timescape's functionality seemed unclear in the video, Sony released a
press statement on Tuesday that described Timescape in a as an application that "manages all your communication with one person in one place."
[34] Compatible applications will be available for download from the Android Marketplace and Sony's PlayNow store.
[5] At the heart of the new Xperia handset will be SE's newly-developed Android skin, codenamed Rachel.
[48] Is there any new business model from SE matching P1i in practicality and userfriendlyness? The likes of Xperia are more gimmik than practical use.
[52] The new handset comes with a face recognition software and also allows users to access Twitter, Facebook, e-mail and other messaging applications.
[7] Although struggling handset maker announced the phone's specifications today, the phone won't be released until sometime much later in the first half of 2010.
[15] All major handset vendors are already doing it, in one way or another. It'''s good to see''Sony Ericsson finally getting in tune with the industry trends with their multi platform''user interface initiative and pretty cool devices.
[32] PSPgo came close, but just because it is a questionable idea switching media in the middle of a console cycle, doesn't mean the device itself has anything wrong with it. I love their TVs. I believe he was implying that the Sony Corporation and their business practices'suck', not necessarily their products.
[17] I so agree with this. I have the Sony P1i and it got a few bugfixes and thats it, no updates ever beyond those to its Symbian OS. The P1i also runs a modified UI so not all apps work properly with it.
[30] As for the overall performance of the phone, I will be betting on the side of great rather than just good. That is my confidence in Android, which this phone is running beneath all that custom UI.
[40] Android on 1GHz is just pure bliss to me. I can'''t imagine why it took them so long to make this mobile phone.
[28] An Android on a 1GHz processor; if that is not a sweet deal, I do now know what is. Did you see the specs on that phone? It has 1Gb of internal storage, a four inch HD capacitive touch screen and a free 8GB SD card.
[53] What is good is the fact that the Android Snapdragon phone is seeing some real progress in production.
[53] Most of the Droid's
substantial marketing campaign is built around
new features in Android 2.0.
[6] On the release date, November 3rd, the new smartphone should benefit from Android 2.0 software.

[13] However the new phone will not go on sale until early next year. Analysts expect the company to report another deep loss in 2010, but its gross margin and market share are seen up.
[13]
Unlike other XPERIA smartphones, the X10 does not come with a slide-out keyboard. so everything has to be done on the touchscreen. [3] More specifically, Sony said that Timescape lets you check out your Facebook, photos, e-mails, and text messages in an integrated way.
